I arrange the tips so the top tray surface is itself entirely flat.

EVERY fin "floats" on side NEVER upright as in image. I have been experimenting for DAYS with half a dozen batches of "fins" each day. I have been freezing Reverse Osmosis filtered water (six stage). Prior to freezing the water is first boiled in microwave to disposes it of oxygen: for clear cubes. I have also frozen tap water, and distilled water. Same vexatious experience: fail.

__ clear ice How To

* Use either distilled water- or reverse osmosis water
* bring to boil to drive out excess oxygen that creates white occlusions
* freeze

Perhaps with a dremel I can trim the ice such that the fin will stand perpendicular to beverage surface. Maybe fins prefer alcohol? :rolleyes: It would probably be easier to carve fins from a Tovolo King Cube [favorite silicone ice tray] than to tinker with the shark tray hoping for at least one sharklike fin.

Consider how the tray sits in the freezer. I have mine resting on a plastic cutting board to provide a flat surface for the fin tips to rest. I arrange the tips so the top tray surface is itself entirely flat.

Unfortunately I could not wait a MONTH for the UK seller, "find me a gift" [seller=A1L4HT9WCK7DNA], package to arrive in time to gift it to someone so I ordered a second shark fin tray from a suddenly new American vendor, "Cool Stuff Express" [seller=A1F1JC5LAEA5EU]. Both trays are identical and therefore equally poor at producing the claimed ice mold. I ordered from "find me a gift" Jan 19, amazon claimed "Delivery Estimate: February 15, 2011 - March 1, 2011". Jan 20 I ordered from "cool stuff express" amazon claimed "Delivery Estimate: January 26, 2011 - January 31, 2011".

I read and followed instructions. I had a hard time setting the tray upright, because it is so flexible. I had minor drips and spills. That was not as disappointing as ice fins floating sideways. Not sure why someone complained about the $50 price, because I spent about $7. I thought that was pricey, but I splurged for the fun product. Disappointing, for sure.

Soooooo disappointed...I bought this for my 4yr old son's ocean themed birthday party...the day of the party, I put them in our punch and they flopped over on their sides!!! Needless to say, no one could tell they were susposed to be shark fins!!

The product arrived timely (actually Early). I immediately rinsed and started my first set. The Cons come in that these do not float upright, like the pictures. I have tried overfilling to make the base heavier than the fin, but nothing seems to make them float in something like Kool-aid the way they were represented. If placing in the top of margaritas or a frozen/slushy drink then definitely a novel idea, but in regular drinks they just don't perform as displayed. If there is a trick I haven't discovered I would be willing to try. Fun Item as I also have the Shot glass ice trays, but feel these are misrepresented to the public. I will still use, but as a frozen drink garnish rather than ice cubes.

This has no way of standing up in the freezer; as you can see it will be held up by the 5 shark fins, making it flimsy and spilling water in your freezer. Then, because you lost some water in the process, they will become flimsy as soon as they hit the liquid in the glass. Out of the 5, 1 will turn out correctly and will be a cute conversation piece for guests.

I probably misses it in the write-up but there are only 4 shark cube per tray! Not so pleased about that. Also, not sure if it's because of how they were shipped but the shark fins were bent so that they would often break as I removed them from the tray. :(

slightly disappointed. It was way smaller than we expected. and the ice doesn't really come out of the plastic that well.

Super flimsy.... cubes don't "stand upright" in drink either. Also it's tiny.
