Born in Canada, McLean earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from the University of Arizona. He began his career in journalism working for newspapers including the Arizona Daily Sun, The Idaho Statesman and the Daily Breeze.
He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and daughter and enjoys hockey, beer, reading and also is trying to learn to play the guitar.
