A Kid's Review
This review is from: Mutual Insignificance (Audio CD)
I liked Chris Thomson's other bands Circus Lupus and the Monorchid (haven't heard Skull Kontrol) so it was almost guaranteed that I would like the Red Eyed Legends as well. Chris has got his usual vocal delivery, kinda like Mark E Smith of the Fall mixed with a little Nick Cave from the Birthday Party, more talk than singing, which I think fits this music rather well. The other members of this band are from bands I've never heard before (Countdown, Entertainment, Cinco de Gatos, Silverbacks, Evil Three), but this band sounds really good together and makes me want to check out their previous work. There is what sounds like a Farfisa organ that floats on top of bass and drums playing a more new-wavey/funky version of a Jesus Lizard rhythm. The Farfisa player really adds a distinctive touch to the band's sound, adding a layer of melody on top of the heavy-ass rock groove. I like this CD quite a bit, although I imagine I'll grow tired of it because I've been listening to it too much. I highly recommend this CD, there's not one bad song on it. Go buy it
