Imagine you're driving a rusty van through an obscure stretch of highway in east Texas and it's after midnight. You see a sign for a bar featuring live music on the next right. You make the turn, park the van, stroll inside and take a seat at the only open table. On the rickety, wood-paneled stage, the instrumentalists of what looks like a rockabilly or psychobilly band are standing around waiting for their cue. Suddenly, the smiling bar proprietor walks on stage and announces that the vocalist couldn't make it, but that he found a last-minute replacement. He leaves the stage, and out comes a six-foot tall man with long black hair and wearing studded leather and face paint who looks exactly like Shagrath. You stay for the entire performance. This is what the Muukalainen Puhuu experience is like. It has the monster-from-the-deep vocals, wall of noise guitar sound and droning repetition typical of black metal, yet interspersed with twangy guitar riffs and spacey keyboard textures, all of which resembles what a psychobilly act like Reverend Horton Heat would sound like at half tempo and with twice as much distortion. Despite its uniqueness and originality, this is only half of a great album. The first four tracks are not bad, but nothing about them really stuck with me. The fifth track, on the other hand, is an instrumental that serves as a bridge to the really fun stuff. The second half features two eight minute tracks that really demonstrate Orannsi Pazuzu's potential; they're the kind of tracks you play again when it's over, all the while thinking "did I really just listen to that?" Black metal is not known for playfulness or having a sense of humor - not a complaint, just an observation, so even though this album wasn't totally satisfying, discovering music in this genre that has these elements made it a refreshing experience overall.

one of the few atmospheric bands worth your time, who have emerged lately, creates a cosmic atmosphere of mystery, horror and emptiness.
keyboards are used to create that 'cosmic' or 'spacy' atmosphere where bleak guitars and vocals mesh into a voice from outerspace, speaking of untold horrors (it's finnish, so it's alien to me). if you manage to appreciate pink floyd and manes at the same time, this debut is highly recommended.
