5.0 out of 5 stars Premiere Elements 8
This book is an excellent guide to Premiere Elements. It maintains an effective balance between being basic enough for a newcomer to understand, and sufficiently advanced to give the accomplished user some insights and pointers that will more than adequately compensate them for the purchase price of the book.
Highly recommended

versus
3.0 out of 5 stars Expensive for the limited content
The price for this book is very high. Would expect it to packed with good information however, it is small in size and small in content.

The book is 6" X 9", but even that is deceiving. The text columns are only 3 1/4" wide.
The book is only 228 pages long yet 86 of the pages don't talk about Premiere Elements. Lot of information is repeated throughout...

5.0 out of 5 stars This is for everyone, November 4, 2009

I bought the software bundle recently and find this book very clearly shows you the basics and the tips for the more advanced user. I had never used the Elements version of this Adobe software, but find this an easy to follow, clear and concise explanation of the layout, functions, and uses of all features. It shows you various ways to access features you would never find on your own. It also includes tips and recommendations from a person who has used the software and recognizes its quirks, faults and secrets. The index has great recommendations for computer specs and optimizing your computer to run this software. It also suggests other software to help maximize your use of Elements 8 and even suggests some workarounds for improving your experience. This book is a must for the beginner and the advanced user. Another great resource from the folks at Muvipix. I would rate it six stars if possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Information on Premiere 8, May 5, 2010

This review is from: The Muvipix.com Guide to Adobe Premiere Elements 8: (Color version) The tools, and how to use them, to make movies on your personal computer (Paperback)
I installed and worked with this program for over two months before I purchased this book. I struggled with certain aspects of the program which were counter intuitive or down right broken. This book points out the problem areas in plain english and offers alternative solutions. It is written with the user in mind unlike most of the manuals we see today. I found myself using the highlighter right away and could not put it down. This is a great program for the hobbiest who just want to take the old VHS tapes and convert them to something meaningful but you have to know how to navigate or you will just throw your hands up and walk away. If you are a serious or even middle of the road user of this program this book is a must. You will get ten times the value back to you in reducing your wasted time trying to figure out how things work. Great job!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very approachable way to learn Premiere Elements 8!, February 21, 2010

This review is from: The Muvipix.com Guide to Adobe Premiere Elements 8: (Color version) The tools, and how to use them, to make movies on your personal computer (Paperback)
This book is written less like a technical manual and more like your helpful friend is showing you the ropes around this program. Grisetti's knowledge of the product, and his ability to enthusiastically explain how to get the most out of Premiere Elements makes increasing your skill level much less intimidating than if you were going it alone. Useful pictures, and step by step instructions help show users how to use the tools in the program, and to also have some fun along the way. Grisetti also incorporates the other skill-building resources out there, and connections his readers to a community of people who share a passion for movie making- all great bonuses to this book!

The book is only 228 pages long yet 86 of the pages don't talk about Premiere Elements. Lot of information is repeated throughout the book.

The author talks about free access at their web site, but most of them cost money. As an example, he states that he explains right-click tools on his web site under Steves Tips. Problem is it costs $20 per month to read his tips. He also talks about several free utilities but they also cost money after a trial period.

I did pick up 4 or 5 good tips so I gave it 3 stars. Had the book cost $10 to $15 I would have been happy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Should be your 2nd or 3rd book on PSE, October 8, 2010

It has been a good supplement to the books by Kelby and McClelland but I would have had a low opinion of it if it was my only book on PSE. The Kelby and McClelland books are comparable, excellent 1st books with enough depth to satisfy almost all PSE users. There is 90% overlap but just enough unique material and different approaches to the same process (such as sharpening) to make them both essential books on my bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I bought this book FIRST!!, May 6, 2010

I have rarely been so satisfied with a how-to book than this one, written by Steve Grisetti. Steve writes in an easy-to-understand yet direct manner, which allowed me to breeze through the book with a much greater understanding of how to use Premiere Elements 8, and the more intricate video and audio tools that are somewhat buried therein. Plus, he offers very useful basic hints and tricks which I've not seen in other books. The book is also replete with pictures and graphics to ease your understanding of the topics as they're presented. I would highly recommend this book for newbies (like I was) and for people endeavoring to understand and apply the more advanced features of this great program. I just wish that this had been the first book I bought for learning Adobe Premiere Elements.

Excellent information in an easy to understand style. Defiantly written by someone who had actually used the program. Only con is that the type is a bit small for 50 year old eyes.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for a beginner, November 1, 2009

This review is from: The Muvipix.com Guide to Adobe Premiere Elements 8: (Color version) The tools, and how to use them, to make movies on your personal computer (Paperback)
I purchased this book because I had absolutely no experience with video editing and had recently purchased the Adobe video editing software. What I needed was some basics. Unfortunately, this book assumes that the reader knows more than the basics. For example project settings - very, very basic, but the author skims over it. Lots of how to do bells and whistles stuff but little for the beginner.
