5.0 out of 5 stars good buy for those not interested in net streaming...
All,
This would be my 3rd or 4th DivX player, and my second
hard drive based one (other was an MG25). This one has
worked flawlessly, and having 300GB of movies, clips, and
music videos available is awesome.... I will henceforth
avoid network streaming ones with their expense, slowness
and transcoding problems. I recommend this...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as advertised
On the main specifications page of the Mvix website, this is listed as able to play AVI files. It isn't. It won't play them at all. Hidden within the support section of the MivxUSA website is a small "fine-print" article that mentions some "issues" with AVI files. The "issue" is that it will not play AVI files, despite the specifications listed.

Also, if...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as advertised, December 17, 2007

On the main specifications page of the Mvix website, this is listed as able to play AVI files. It isn't. It won't play them at all. Hidden within the support section of the MivxUSA website is a small "fine-print" article that mentions some "issues" with AVI files. The "issue" is that it will not play AVI files, despite the specifications listed.

Also, if you have a standard aspect TV, this will NOT display widescreen video appropriately if it is in MPEG-2 or Divx format. It does not letterbox properly. Instead, it "stretches" the image to fit the screen, and it looks awful. It does a good job with DVD ISO files, but if I'm going to have to create a no-longer-editable ISO file, then why do I need this Mivx player? I could just store my AVI files on a bigger, cheaper hard drive and burn some DVDs.

If you don't need to play AVI files, and you don't want to show widescreen movies on a standard aspect TV, then you may find this product useful. Otherwise, you'll be unhappy with it.

And one more thing, MivxUSA assesses a 25% restocking fee (25%!!!) just to return the device. Make sure you're sure you want this before you order, because you won't be returning it no matter how crummy it is.

I am not a satisfied customer.

1.0 out of 5 stars lots of promiss but cheap parts and ignorant snoody support, February 26, 2011
This review is from: Mvix (MV-5000R) Multimedia Center (w/ LCD) (Electronics)
this player will give you just a little more than headaches. It will not play AVI... if you receive one of these units and it doesn't work right straight out of the box be ready to spend a whole lot more money on it as the company will not take responsibility for any of it.
If you have to contact their tech support be ready for an onslaught of arrogance and frustration.

The internal parts, cooling fan wire connectors processor are all made from the cheapest parts available.

Sad how such a great idea can be supported by such thoughtless fools.

I recommend the "Popcorn Hour" player. it does what it promises and i hear their tech department is awesome

I love this player! It plays almost everything i throw at it. I have had a few AVI files that wont play but for the most part AVI's work great! It also has played all the ISOs ive tried just fine, im not sure what those other reviews are about, maybe just bad luck? or they needed to firmware upgrade.

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost great, with one fatal flaw, December 14, 2007
This review is from: Mvix (MV-5000R) Multimedia Center (w/ LCD) (Electronics)
I bought this unit with a mind to supplement several other media server units I own. I returned it because I found out that it did not support the ISO format. It did a good job with everything it supported and I was tempted to keep it strictly for pictures and small clips.

There is nothing really wrong with this unit. I just have become used to a quick and efficient ISO transfer with my other units and found that I had to jump through a few conversion hoops with this one.
