Mvix should have build it better,

This is my second Mvix product after the 5000R, I have to admit the concept is great. Storing and streaming your media files and playing them on your home theater is very practical. It does play lots of codec and never have an issue with the playback quality. The problem with this unit is the poor construction quality. RCA Jacks pulled out with the cables from first use and the screws of the casing are loose could not tight them after installing the hard disk. Vibration noise from the hard disk is effecting the overall ambience.
I am disappointed but still like the device and it always impress my house guests. Hopefully Mvix one day will build a sturdy unit as they have a niche product that can easily sell well in today's market.

Ceases to amaze me ... again,

This one is my 2nd Mvix purchase. I bought the 760HD model 7-8 months back, and truly enjoyed it. When this new model came out, I gave the previous one to my dad... The new 780 has some good features and all of them work flawlessly. The free internet radio has embedded internet radio links to millions to radio stations from across the world. This model comes with BOTH the IDE and SATA connectors for Hard Drive... but they decided to remove the IR-extender option from the back of the unit. (no idea why they did it). This player now supports a cool blue UI... slightly better than the previous model and a much better designed remote. The video quality remains flawless. DVD-ISO playback is the hallmark of mvix and it does it very well. Very highly Recommended Product. IMHO.

A Perfect Portable HTPC for Home and Travel,
By Caryle Harvey "MAYTAS" (Miami, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mvix Usa MX-780HD Hi-def Wireless Media Center (Electronics)
I bought this unit for storing my entire collection of DVDs and all videos that I have owned for the past 10-yrs. Installed a 1TB SATA HDD in the unit, the day this arrived. Spent over 2-days putting my entire collection on it ... powered-on and boom it plays everything. This is one the most immaculate pieces of hardware ever made. Plays my entire collection of divx, xvids and ISOs. What else can I ask for?
Its got some really neat features - Internet Radio, Wireless streaming, Auto-Scan Wireless function... (i watched a video from my stupid neighbors open network!). I have it setup such that I start the DVD ripping and then my PC automatically uploads the ripped ISO to this unit during night (scheduler). The robocopy + ndas function works flawlessly and has significantly increased the network transfer speeds. I took this unit with me on one of my recent travels. It was great... I could plug it into the hotel-room TV and watch my videos. I wish this unit was a bit smaller for travel purposes... Maybe a 2.5" HDD unit will be great for such portability. Overall, I couldnt be more satisfied with this piece of technology. Well made, and does exactly what it says. Highly Recommended A+++

I like the concept and the product. I purchased the HD version because I wanted to connect it to my new 1080P Samsung TV. I received the unit and I just could not get it to work through the HDMI interface. I also tried it on my 720P Sharp Aquos, but still no video over the HDMI. I was able to connect it using the component video and everything worked fine. I also had a problem with the LCD display where as I was using the remote the display would get garbled. After going through a couple weeks of emails with Mvix customer support, upgraded the firmware to the latest, tried over and over, but just could not get the HDMI working, so I returned it for repair (much to my objection at my expense for shipping). Mvix received the unit and said there was no problem found. The could not reproduce the HDMI issue nor the LCD issue. Luckily I had taken a picture of the corrupted LCD dispolay so I had hard proof. They reluctantly replaced my LCD display. They admitted that it has never been tested with my specific TV models, and mentioned that Samsung had a problem with sound. I also asked customer support for a list of qualified TV's that they know work, but they would not provide it.
One thing that I noticed is that the HDMI plug is inset into the box about 3/16 inch. Most HDMI devices position the HDMI connector flush with the back panel. Could it be that because my HDMI connector won't fully seat in the connector, that is why I can't get it to work? I did try a different cable with a slightly longer plug but that didn't work either. Anyway bottom line, it seems to me there is HDMI compatibility issues with some TV, including unfortunately the two TV's that I have, OR a mechanical issue with the inset position of the HDMI connector. I guess I could take the PCB out of the box so that I can fully seat the HDMI plug but I didn't try that (yet). I have to use it with the component video, which means a resolution of only 1080i, which sucks since I paid for 1080p capability. Other than that it works great! I recommend buying the non-HD version and save some money for the useless HDMI!

good idea terrible execution cheapest internal parts,

Here is a product that had all the promiss...
it plays a lot of different codecs sort of... Almost all my media files skip constantly and then the Audio gets out of sink very fast if you try to pause to reset this issue it will most likely freeze up. Mvix Claimes it is because of my video files format but i have hundreds of videos with different formats and it happens in all my movies I bought one player originally and it worked great for a while. After i replaced a bunch of very cheap parts like the cooling fan and the wire connectors that unit is still running most of the time. With just minor problems here and there. I purchased 3 more for friends and for my little boy.I placed movies inside after i changed them to the recommended ideal format, AND GUESS WHAT THEY ALL SKIP. the worst part about this player is the company that makes and sells them, once they have your money they will blame any problem on you forget trying to get them to resolve any of your problems with this. They are the most arrogant and snoody techies in the business. Trained in extracting even more money form you. No thing such as loyalty to their customers. out of five units we purchased 3 are almost useless out of the box. with the company doing nothing to remidy the situation. If you want a good player go with "Popcorn hour" great reviews and awesome customer support the price is about the same and better

If you want to play High Definition video, this is not the product you're looking for. For those new to HD video, if you have HD-DVD's or Blue-Ray discs and thinking to rip and watch them on this device. Forget about it. HD-DVD and BlueRay have EVO format, not VOB as old DVD's. If you have MKV with HD videos like in H264, don't think you will be able to extract them and play them here. DivX-HD is not supported neither. Audio is great. Normal DVD's looks great. Wi-Fi Network ... if you're lucky.
Return the product for refund is a nightmare. So, here's my opinion based on my experience with mvix: Pros: DVD (NOT HD-dvd or blue ray) looks great! Quality and sound are great. Cons: The device have HDMI and component output, but for what? you can't really play HD content. DO NOT support H264, EVO ("Enhanced VOB" that's what you get after ripping a HD-dvd or blue-Ray), ISO (if the iso is a HD-dvd or bule-ray it wont play it), DivX-HD in case you're thinking to convert your videos to divx, MKV. [...] The audio sounds great, but if you want to play mp3's but you can't leave the device playing all your songs or lists, the manual says that, but doesn't work. So, you need to hear one song, then select next one, hear it, select next one... Can't tell about the wi-fi network (streaming) because I wasn't able to make it work. Even when I have other devices working without a problem. And looks like other people on reviews everywhere have issues with it too.

I have edited my previous comments about the products, however i cant edit teh rating.
Any way after more then one year using this item, i can say that this is really a nice product if you know how to use it right and integrate it right. you can use it in basic configuration and Professional integration. Goods: 1- WIFI, Wired Network making it easily to share your content with other PC's at home "SAN storage". 2- NDAS: its nice utility, i'm having 5 pc's connected to this unit acting as SAN and all the other PC's playing mulitimedia from this unit, movies, pics etc. 3- Picture quality it's very nice Cons: 1- Very Slow over SAN, moving file to this unit over LAN can take alot of time making it impossible to use. 2- Video Codec, Most HD content over the internet is H.264, and this player does not support it. for HD fiends this is not your baby. 3- No fast media connection only USB, and it takes long time to download or upload data from it especially that i have 1tb installed into this unit. 4- NDAS does not integrate with DLAN Bottom line: this is excellent unit for basic users and nice add on for advance users, you can integrate this unit with other HTPC systems. Portable, easy to use, Internet radio is fun as well. |
