Don't listen to the haters, this is an amazing game. I ride dirtbikes in real life and have played every Mx game since ATV Offroad Fury on the PS2. People are bashing this game, saying that it is impossible to control when in reality, the Reflex system adds a whole new dimension. Think about it, if you threw your leg over a motorcycle in real life, would you be racing at a pro level in 5 minutes? NO. The learning curve is steeper than it has been in the past, but once you get the hang of the new controls, you will find that the motorcycle actually behaves alot more like it's real world counterpart. This challenge makes it feel that much better when you nail a long rhythm section in a supercross race, or rail a freshly dug berm in a national. There are fewer tracks and freeride areas than in previous games, but the thought and time that went into these aspects are mindblowing. The terrain deformation is AWESOME, its so much more realistic that as a race goes on, lines in the track change, it keeps you on your toes. My only real complaint is that there is a pretty heavy emphasis on winning truck and buggy races, which is an obvious attempt to bring in some of the Motorstorm / Dirt fans. Rainbow should lose this stuff for the next version and put all their focus onto perfecting MX/ATV racing. Overall, it is a game that I will playing and perfecting for a long time, and it will only get better when downloadable tracks become available. Don't buy into the people that hate this game, they just have short attention spans and need immediate gratification. If you guys like the last game so much, you should keep playing that while the rest of us move into the future of MX racing games.

When I first popped this game in, I was amazed and played for several hours at a stretch. I was happily carving around on my tricked-out KTM, enjoying the races and jumps, free-rides, and everything else.
After a couple of days, you begin to see there's not a lot there. There aren't many tracks. There's no semblance of an official racing series or a real "career" mode. Only KTM bikes have been licensed for the game. There are other bikes bearing the distinctive color schemes of other manufacturers, but they have made-up names. The customization and tuning of the bikes is very simplistic. You simply tune the bike on a sliding scale between hard/soft suspension, acceleration/top speed, soft/sticky tires. The custom parts you can buy mean little - they all have the same values and do the same things, except for the look. To complete the game you are forced to use buggies, sport trucks, etc. The choices for these vehicles are very limited and these events are uninteresting. Like most people I was only interested in the MX aspect of the game. Another major annoyance is the frequency with which the computer riders will crash into you and knock you down. It happens far too often that you'll just be running your race and a computer rider comes from nowhere and crashes into you at speed that would cause very serious injury. Due to the lack of realism, you can still win the race often times even with a few crashes. Next time: give us meaningful customization and tuning, make the rear tire look like it actually spins when you ride, and give us a meaningful career mode instead of the glorified string of single races. I'd give this one 2 stars out of 5. If you play the demo, you've essentially played the whole game.

I have pretty much went through this entire game except the Freestyle levels(Dont really get into the tricks) & this game is fun, fun, fun. I have seen other reviewers bash this game, but I attribute this to them not having the patience, nor the hand eye coordination to play it. I am a off roader in real life & this game has very realistic controls. YOU HAVE TOTAL CONTROL over the Motorcycle/ATV you are riding. Anyone that has basic skills of riding a dirtbike or ATV can see that the techniques used in this game are true to life.
High speed cornering, body positioning during jumps, going up steep hills with weight leaned toward the front of the bike, etc. Its all here. What really impressed me is how the designers made it real by giving you the ability to bring your rear end down while in mid jump by giving throttle, & by bringing your front end down by applying the brake.. These are REAL techniques.. The tracks are realistic because the terrain gets rutted up just like in real life as a race progresses. Riding in ruts is a real technique. The free ride levels have challenges that are really cool. I personally like the hill climbing challenges because this is something that I enjoy in real life. You have to use the same real life techniques used in trail riding for climbing hills. I also love how you can actually go out & purchase after market upgrades for your MX/ATV & they are the real parts. Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha, KTM is all here. Thing is KTM seems to be the only one that had copyrights with the game designers because the name of the other bikes are different. Example, there is a yellow Takashi 250 two stroke dirtbike which is a Suzuki RM 250 two stroke. I own this one IRL & I was able to build my bike that I have down to the black Excel rims with the Kenda Carlsbad tires. LOL the knobbies on tire profile even match.. You can tune your bike(suspension, braking, traction, acceleration) just like in real life so that you can have all your power on the bottom end for mx tracks where you need rapid acceleration. Or you can tune your bike for top end for the longer Omnicross races. The gear, helmets, & goggles are even true to real life. The designers did their homework on this one. My only complaints is the AI of the other riders in the game. What is not realistic is how they designers make other riders intentionally wreck you & themselves. Its a bit overkill & very annoying. Especially on the Omnicross races where the trucks will run you over on purpose. Of course, the thing to do is to lay back when attempting to pass & wait them to make a mistake so you can overtake them for a higher position. This game has excellent replay value because I have already won all of the races, I just like going back through them again for the fun of it LOL. I only wish that they had more tracks than the 3 levels on the game. Maybe they can add more later as purchased add ons on the Playstation Network? I reccomend this game to anyone that like to be challenged with a real life riding experience.

This game is fantastic. The track deformation and reflex system are excellent additions. I have both this and mx vs atv alive, and there's no doubt this one is a better VALUE... however, if you like motocross you'll probably eventually buy both of 'em.I chose Reflex over Alive (initially) because I mostly just wanted the mindless simulation of riding a dirt bike through the free-ride areas. You know... just kind of exploring and enjoying the nice graphics via a motorcycle. If you're a simple guy like me, maybe you remember the microsoft PC game that let you do that? You could also race, but some days I just liked exploring. This is where the value-gap widens between these two titles. The free-rides in Alive are small areas, and frankly, pretty boring... not much to explore, just plenty of jumps to hit at various angles. The free-rides in this title, Reflex, are vast and interesting. Reflex has a lot of everything. The omnicross and waypoint events were an awesome surprise based on my previous reason for wanting this game. It's like each category of racing is exciting, but completely different on how much controller-input the game demands from you. I.E. try super-cross... or one of the harder tracks on "nationals" (use code "whereto" to unlock all locations)... and you'll find it's pretty darn hard until you get used to the controller, but you can obviously free-ride with very little risk of having a bad time, even if you're brand new to the PS3 controller. Then the waypoint is a great evolution of a free-ride... and the omnicross is another click up in intensity, but with BIG beautiful maps! The funny thing is, this system of various events and free-rides lets you enjoy the whole process of learning the controller. Again, if you're like me, you see people use one of these modern controllers and it looks like brain surgery, but thanks to this game, I'm getting smooth with it. "Alive" is VERY limited, unless you have a lot of time to unlock the maps through achievements OR you can pay $6 to unlock them. That's a little annoying, but if you buy Reflex, enjoy it, get good at it, and run out of material... then Alive + $6 is an acceptable deal. Still, even then, Reflex simply has MORE in it. If you could only buy one of the two... it's Reflex, hands down. The graphics of Alive are evolutionary, not revolutionary... i.e. Reflex still looks good in comparison. I'm surprised this game isn't rated higher, but of course I didn't pay much for it... either title can be found for under twenty bucks new, and sometimes for much less used.

i ordered this game after alive. to me alive was a big disappointment and the issues with the depot are even more frustrating. i ordered this game and enjoyed it much more. while the graphics and gameplay may be a touch behind alive this game provides better overall entertainment.

The realism is awesome but the game is not fun. I have been playing for a week and my best accomplishment is 5th place in the first race (and you have to win to unlock next tracks). When you think you have a good chance to win the race there it comes the computer from nowhere crashing into you. Also there are no levels: like beginner, intermediate, etc. It is all or nothing... or more nothing than anything.
