Runnin' the Gambit!,
By T.D. Reed (Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My Angel Baby: Very Best of (Audio CD)
Toby Beau covered most of the ground in this collection of great music. Ballads, Country Rock, Progressive Country; it's all here. These are songs that you can't help but sing along with. You can even envision the "Westbound Train" on the rockin'est song on the CD. Don't be afraid if you've never heard of Toby Beau. I didn't either back in 1978 but a co-worker shared the album with me and it's a "keeper". There are great love songs, including their top 40 pop hit, "My Angel Baby", and "Bulldog", which is a hot-moving banjo number (with a bar-girl named Lily). A bit of Cowboy Blues in the "Broken-Down Cowboy" ditty and most folks can relate, directly or indirectly, with "Watchin' The World Go By". A truly delightful addition to your music collection, you'll find this CD to be a favorite almost immediately.

Texas Shrimp Boat "Progressive Country" Lives On!,

This review is from: My Angel Baby: Very Best of (Audio CD)
The recently released CD entitled "The Very Best of Toby Beau - My Angel Baby" will resurrect many memories from the band's faithful listeners. I just received my copy from Amazon.com and have been playing it non-stop ever since. Those previously unfamiliar with Toby Beau's music will also enjoy it. The CD includes 15 of the bands top songs, including the hit "My Angel Baby". When I bought my first Toby Beau 8-track in 1978, it held a prime spot alongside my other favorite bands of the time such as Grand Funk, Bob Seger, the Doobies, and others. I remember singing along to Westbound Train, Broken Down Cowboy, Into the Night, and every other song on the albumn. I recall the sound being called "Progressive Country" in 1978 (at least in San Antonio where I lived at the time). Put the CD in your player, and enjoy the great music, smooth vocals, and uplifting songs. The songs bring back fond memories of quiet evenings watching the sun set along the beach at Port Aransas & South Padre Island, Texas. My 1978 Toby Beau albumn is definitely one of my Top 10 all-time favorites.

It is hard to really give my opinion on Toby Beau music, since the Lead Singer (Balde Silva) is one of my best friends, I first heard "My Angel Baby" when I was 16 yrs old, Balde bounced it off me before it ever went live and vinyl. I instantly told him that it would be a hit, and sure enough it went #1 on the charts. If you like good ole soft rock, then Toby Beau is for you, they really rocked all of Texas during their time.
