5.0 out of 5 stars Great rhyming book to go with the video
We got this for our daughter when she was about 9 months old. She had the "My Baby Can Talk" videos and loves them, and it seemed a good way to reinforce the signing. It was especially good when she was in childcare, because nursery staff who didn't know the signs could read her the book (not much to ask really!) and learn the signs, while reinforcing what she already...

3.0 out of 5 stars Baby apparently only wants to talk about animals
Book is a nice size for a small child to hold and has good color photos of both the subject being signed and a child signing. I like the book, but 75% of the signs are animals. I was hoping for more daily use signs (as the book is called "First Signs"), we just don't see a lot of horses and ducks during our day. My 3 year old only communicates through sign and he does...

We got this for our daughter when she was about 9 months old. She had the "My Baby Can Talk" videos and loves them, and it seemed a good way to reinforce the signing. It was especially good when she was in childcare, because nursery staff who didn't know the signs could read her the book (not much to ask really!) and learn the signs, while reinforcing what she already knew.

One of the things I really like about these books, which other signing books don't seem to have is little rhymes that explain the sign. Other books show you the sign, but there is nothing to read. Examples from the book: "Taking a bath is what I like best, The sign for a bath is washing your chest" or "My little socks are comfy and new, With fingers together I pretend to knit two". With pictures of the item (socks) and a drawn picture of a little girl doing the sign. So it is like reading a nursery rhyme AND learning the sign.

My daughter is now just over 2yrs and I can't stress enough how great signing as been for her. She rarely has tantrums, because she can express what she wants. When she does have a tantrum they last about a minute, while I remind her use her words or her signs to tell us what she wants. And her language ability is far ahead of the other kids her age, I think just because she learned so much earlier that things have names... and now she wants the name for everything!

This is a great series, the books by themselves or with the DVDs-kids and adults alike learn quickly and easily, and it's fun!

I gave this book to my nephew for his first birthday. He loves it! He likes looking at the pictures and the pages are easy to turn. A great book!

my son (a two year old - non talker) liked this video a lot. It was engaging. He said a few words and copied some of the signs after the first viewing. I hope it continues this good.
