Book Description

October 30, 2006
Roxanne Moore had many enemies who shared her hobby of showing cats. Among her other bad habits, she stole things from people: Cats, jewelry, sometimes even husbands. So when her strangled body is found in the restroom at the largest cat show in the country, no one is really surprised. But it’s the beginning of a crime investigation into the edge of lunacy known as the Cat Fancy.

Kim Norwich is the plucky redheaded security guard who takes the murder personally, as it happens on her watch. She is forced to step aside as the criminal investigation ensues. Even though she has sworn off men, she finds herself helplessly attracted to the detective in charge, Rob Reynolds.

Part romance, part mystery, MY BEST CAT is an uproarious and sometimes naughty story chock full of feline history, outrageous characters, plot twists, hilarity, and of course, the cats themselves. Kenya Strut, SoSuMe and Hot Purrsuit provide sanity for their glory-seeking owners. Who committed this heinous crime? Who will be Best Cat? Who has the jello shots? This frisky tale is sure to keep you on your toes.

More About the Author

Can you hear that sound? It's the trees calling. That primeval urge to go home to the woods, to smell the air, and the innate need for Quiet are things that motivate me. Though I currently live in southeast Michigan, it is this need that causes me to hitch up the horse trailer and haul my family of animals six hours north to Drummond Island each year.

Someone once described me as a "woodsy ragamuffin." This is pretty accurate, except for the seemingly incongruous fact that, like many thespians, I enjoy dressing up. There are various reasons people do stage plays: A love of the arts; a desire to be someone else at least temporarily; an urge to behave erratically in a public forum. While all these apply to me, my main reason is that I am, quite simply, a ham. I love karaoke too. There's nothing like bopping around on stage in leather pants, swinging a microphone and forcing a crowd of strangers to listen to my slightly off-key version of, "Tracks of My Tears."

I'm sort of an amature behaviorist, having loved to learn different aspects of animal training. My horse Clifford does many tricks, and continues to make his own stuff up, providing me with lots of story material. I hope we will spend many more years together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!, March 3, 2009

My Best Cat: A Furry Murder Mystery

I love a book that I can't stand to put down until I've read the very last word; this is one such book. The writing style, characters and plot had me transfixed from the first page to the last.

I normally can figure out "whodunit" about half way through the best written mystery book, but I didn't know who the culprit was until the very last chapter.

I loved the "glossery of characters" concept, a new one for me, as I found myself using it to remind me who was who as I read.

There were so many little plotlines, it was almost like reading stories within stories, it kept my interest from the first page to the last.

The characters were TRUE characters, some of the strangest folks I've ever "met" in the literary world, and Ms. Bailey's ability to get inside the heads of both the characters AND the critters show that she is a great observer of life in general.

I am a long time dog show exhibitor and have always taken into stride the sort of strange world that can be. From time to time I've walked through a cat show and couldn't believe how really strange THAT world is. The people and their relationships with their felines makes dog show people almost seem normal, and some of the cage decorating is almost scary.

Best in Show can't hold a candle to THIS book! I hope it gets made into a film, I'd be the first to go see it.

If we're lucky, maybe this book will be the first in a series - I can't wait to read the next one!

The only fault I can find with My Best Cat is that it wasn't long enough - truly a great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Best Cat: A Furry Murder Mystery, September 19, 2007

Absolutely don't read this book in public, unless you don't mind people staring at you when you are laughing out loud!

An absolutely delightful book that takes a look at the world of showing cats, with a murder thrown in for good measure. Wonderful, unforgetable characters (both 2-legged and 4-legged). You won't be able to put it down!

I bought My Best Cat for my mother in law who loves both cats and murder mysteries and she loved the combination. Looking for a Mother's Day gift or birthday or Christmas present for a hard to shop for mom or mother in law? This is it!
