Saw this pilot on Amazon Unbox and loved it. I'll be watching the show on TV now. It is a skillful combination of funny and serious scenes, with the indomitable and endlessly busy Sarah Shahi as Kate demonstrating how to be a mediator in even the most trying situations. The show would be worth watching just to learn how to mediate skillfully, but Kate is so much more than a mediator, and her on-again/off-again relationship with her ex-husband adds interest. The show moves quickly, and its variety of situations and characters keeps it fresh every minute. Recommend.

Season 1 of FAIRLY LEGAL consists of 10 episodes, each about 41 minutes long, on 3 DVDs. It's a lightweight dramedy set in San Francisco, focusing on the adventures of Kate Reed (Sarah Shahi). Kate is the daughter of a superstar lawyer, Teddy Reed, who passed away just before story begins. A former lawyer herself, Kate is now a mediator, living on her dad's boat and operating out of his high-class firm, Reed & Reed, which is managed by her icy step-mother, who's only a few years older than she is. The other key players are Kate's ex-husband, Justin, an assistant DA, with whom she still enjoys friendship and hook-ups, and Leo, her witty, African-American assistant with a love of 'nerdy' hobbies (e.g. video games, D&D, graphic novels). In most episodes, Kate tries to mediate a couple of challenging/unusual cases while also trying to solve the season-long mystery of her father's will, specifically: why did he leave a share of his estate to a person no one knows?

FAIRLY LEGAL is sleek, painless, and pretty forgettable. It's open to a bunch a snarky criticisms, from there being about 6 decent episodes stretched over 10 slots, to the rather stereotypical 'funny' black sidekick, to the awfully out-of-place end credits song. That said, it's a pleasant diversion, thanks to the absolutely stunning, unchained demi-goddess of spunk that is Kate/Sarah. She's simply a delight to watch (though the writers should give her some personality traits beyond spunky and stubborn in future seasons). Recommended as a Netflix rental or discount purchase. 3-1/2 stars.

This new show touched my heart. It has a great story line and the plot for this pilot was fantastic. The protagonist of the show has compassion for the "underdogs" of this life. I love it when she work day and night to help a gifted teenager with a scholarship to Yale University who happened to associate with his cousin who cause him to goto jail. In the end, he is free.

Thank you, "Fairly Legal" to allow the world to know that people still have heart and not just situational ethics.

The partner of Charlie Crews (Damian Lewis) on one of the better network shows is recent memory, "Life". For a good portion of "Life" the writters seemed to intentionally cloak Sarah Shahi's mind numbing hotness, Not so in "Fairly Legal."

Kate, is a part owner in a law firm founded my her deceased father , she is forced to work with her step mother (also, a lawyer) with whom she has a contentious relationship. Furthermore, she seems to have a disdain for lawyers in general. She is also separated pending divorce from her husband, who is also a lawyer, albeit as an Assistant District Attorney.

Kate (Sarah) can be summed up based on her strong preferences:

1. Mediation over trials
2. Short skirts, tight blouses and heels
3. The occasional booty call with here soon to be ex-husband

This show is not incredibly thought provoking (with the possible exception of the tag line "win-win"). What you do get is a generally well scripted quasi-comedy and as important, the opportunity to lust over the raven haired, short skirted, tight blouse and heel wearing Sarah Shahi. I can think of worse ways to kill +-45-minutes a week.

Today I was at Target looking for season one of the killing (which is a really good show by the way) and next to it I saw this very item next to it. I was shocked and happy because from the minute I saw the title I know I would love it. I was happy and was confused until I saw the little "Only at Target" seal. Anyway I bought it for $29.00. The set contains 3 discs and has all ten episodes of season one special features include, exclusive scene comparisons with commentary, deleted scenes, and a gag real. I think anyone should buy this from target simply because it's cheaper. and by the way if anyone's looking for In Plain Sight Season 4 it's target exclusive as well.

USA is good at dishing out a certain formulaic genre of TV show, most of which are interchangeable. FAIRLY LEGAL is this season's newest offering. The lovely Sarah Shahi plays Kate Reed, who is, of all things, a nice lawyer. Being a nice lawyer, she has quit the shark-eating-man profession and become a mediator. For those of you who don't know what a mediator is, a mediator tries to effect compromises in which both sides are equally unhappy.

Kate's bright and funny and good at her job. She comes across as too soft and cute at times, mostly, I think, because the producers insist on consistently putting her into casual attire which makes her sexy and irresistible but doesn't impart the kind of keen edge a really gifted mediator needs. A nice conservative blue suit (with a slit skirt) might give her teeth and take away from the pleated-skirt-and-pom-poms effect her easygoing demeanor provokes (although I've discovered that Sarah Shahi was a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader before she turned to acting, so maybe not).

Still, I can't say I mind. I was three-quarters through the first episode before I realized I had no idea what the story was about. Excuse my extreme male chauvinist piggishness, but Kate Reed could mediate any man into the electric chair; and he'd go smilingly.

Whether this show manages to develop any depth remains to be seen, but I have noticed a definite trend in that direction, so I'll keep watching FAIRLY LEGAL, and I'll suggest you do, too.
