A Good CD,
By A Customer
This review is from: My Best Friend's Wedding: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I only noticed this cd after one of my friends told me about it, but I'm glad that she did, because this cd is definitely worth it. My personal favorite song on the cd is "Say A Little Prayer For You", the cast version. Though it isn't much like the movie version (which was a lot better, I think due to the way it was performed), its a great song, and even funnier to listen to with this version. The reggae version is pretty good too. I also enjoyed "Wishin and Hoping", which is just a nice song. However, I think to understand what the meaning of the songs are (to this soundtrack), you need to see the movie, so I recommend that you see the movie, and then take the time to appreciate the soundtrack.

Not what I expected, but I like it anyway.,

I have to agree with the review written by a fan from Olympia, WA: the songs on the soundtrack were not the same versions as in the movie, and this was a disappointment. The cast version of "I Say A Little Prayer" was nothing like the great performance in the film, and Diana King's version of the same song had a reggae flavor; it was fine, but not the version of the song that I had been hoping for. I still enjoy the CD, but it would have been much better if the actual songs from the movie had been included.

Good Movie, Good Soundtrack!,

This album I got for one reason, well really two reasons but the one most important reason was because at the end of My Best Friend's Wedding, one of Julia Robert's best films in my opinion, I heard Amanda Marshall's song I'll Be Okay and I was blown away. I loved the song, it was so powerful and yet so honest.
That song was enough to buy this album alone for me but I also bought it because of Jann Arden's song You Don't Know Me, which was to me the second best song on here and very beautiful. Amanda Marshall and Jann Arden to me are the stars on this album, but good runners up are: - Ani DiFranco's cute song Wishing and Hoping - And the very lovely song by Nicky Holland I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself, - Diana King sings a good song I Say A Little Prayer - And the Exciters have a very strong and fast song that's fun to hear, - And so is the fun song by Jimmy Soul If You Wanna Be Happy. - Sophie Zelmani has a good song on here called Always You. I found myself liking this song. So overall I think this album is very good, but the two songs that stand out the most, and that I listen to the most, are Amanda Marshall and Jann Arden's two songs and the whole reason I bought the soundtrack. I recommend the c.d. definitely. It has cute, sometimes funny, and also very touching songs on here. One of the best sountracks put out.

Better than the movie,

When I saw this movie, I was disappointed. I thought it was ridiculous... but as I watched the movie, I felt that the soundtrack would be great to have - and I was right! It is fun, with a nicely diverse collection of songs. I recommend this soundtrack to those who like variety.Ani DiFranco very cutely sings "Wishin' and Hopin'. 'You Don't Know Me' is sweetly, sadly and beautifully sung by Jann Arden. The Exciters deliver 'Tell Him' in a peppy, strong manner. Nicky Holland enables us to feel Julia Robert's character's loneliness when she sings 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself.' 'The Way You Look Tonight' has always been one of my favorite love songs. It is so dreamy and sweet! Mary Chapin Carpenter excellently and magically brings us 'I'll Never Fall In Love Again.' She is a gutsy girl to sing a Karen Carpenter song! You go girl! I do not know who Sophie Zelmani or Amanda Marshall are, but they did very nicely on 'Always You' and 'I'll Be Okay', respectively. Also, James Newton Howard's 'Suite From My Best Friend's Wedding' is wonderfully done. This is a splendid album. Go ahead ... order it. Go on!

Such great music!! Nice that it includes some of the songs by the actors, many soundtracks miss those. Notably missing, however, is my personal favorite -- Dermot Mulroney singing The Way You Look Tonight. Now that would make it complete!!

Love this CD,

I love this CD! I've had it for years and have now added most of the songs to my IPOD. In fact, I am planning on playing many of them at my sister's upcoming bridal shower.

Buy this album for Jann Arden's You Don't Know Me. It is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. That voice of hers does something to me every time I hear this song.

Not Quite Like The Music In The Movie,

I love watching movies and then purchasing the soundtracks shortly after I can't stop singing the music on the movie. I purchased this soundtrack recently and let me tell you that it is good but I was somewhat disappointed. I think that the songs are very soothing and nice, but not quite what was in the movie. I guess what I was looking for was a lot of what I heard during the movie, the cast singing and things like that. Some good advice before buying, keep in mind that if you are looking for something closer to what is heard on the movie, this is not exactly it. If you like the music in the movie in general and do not care about how it is played as long as you get the same words, then you should buy the soundtrack.
In general I was very disappointed that it was not closer to what is featured in the movie, but it has several classics in there for those of you who are looking for that sort of stuff. Good luck on your purchase.
