Book Description

May 8, 2012
The media feeds us distorted images of beauty and what an "ideal woman" should look like. In My Big Bottom Blessing, author Teasi Cannon offers a way out of distorted body images and the pain of self-rejection.  She says, "My obsession with fat and failure robbed me of a lot of the good in my life.  I have been miraculously set free from the lie that being thin equals being beautiful."

My Big Bottom Blessing offers Teasi's story--and real-life solutions for the millions of women who struggle with poor self-esteem and feelings of inadequacy and rejection.  Whatever it is that you despise most about yourself (it doesn't have to be weight) can become the catalyst for serious life change. Teasi' story proves that emotional pain can be healed and self-confidence found from knowing that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.

My Big Bottom Blessing is a joyful, compassionate, and wise guide from someone who knows the power of exchanging the way we look with a new way of seeing.

From the Back Cover

Loving the girl in the mirror isn't about changing how you LOOK but allowing God to change how you SEE.

Teasi Cannon's lifelong battle with body image nearly destroyed her.  Yet today she feels blessed--not because the size of her loer half has changed but because her perspective has. In her often hilarious, no-nonsense style, Teasi's gut-honest journey and transparent insights will propel every one of us who struggles with...you name it: bad hair or chubby cheeks, skinny arms or wide hips...to realize our value and beauty. Even if nothing ever changes on the outside.

More About the Author

Teasi Cannon has a master's in pastoral counseling from Liberty Theological Seminary. She is a teacher and conference leader based in Nashville, Tennessee.

Teasi's personal journey with God started at the bottom, and skyrocketed...well, in part, because of her bottom. After years of hating her body, especially the size of her lower half, an ironic chain of events led to a beautiful untangling of understanding and hope. Now a respected speaker, women's ministry leader and writer, Teasi delivers an inspiring message to all women--one of healing and godly empowerment.

Armed with scripture, humor and the courage to be transparent, Teasi hopes to restore biblical Truth to self-doubting women: That their first love, Father God, gazes on each of them with joy and adoration every moment of every day.

I have been working with people with eating issues for the last decade. Before that, I had my own eating disorder. And before that, I watched my mom battle bulimia and anorexia. So I have quite a lot of experience in this realm...

Over the years, I've had many books pitched my way with hopes of being featured on my organization's website ([...]). Unfortunately, many of them are just all wrong. Either the authors are clinicians who are totally out of touch with the emotions driving food issues, or they're bad writers, or they're so focused on certain body types that they can be borderline triggering for a lot of people. And then, of course, are the writers who have some "wave your magic wand" or "eat like Jesus eats" response to the issue, which only creates new problems.

Thankfully, Teasi Cannon rises above the fray. She's funny. She's real. She doesn't talk down to readers, or try to act like she's got it all figured out. And yet, she's FREE! Really free. To embrace her body the way it is.

As a person who does not struggle with my weight anymore, even I have a hard time walking in the freedom Teasi talks about. Reading her book inspired me to believe that it is indeed possible to, as Teasi puts it, "defend our freedom" each day, choosing not to live bound by cultural expectations, knowing that we are loved in spite of what we look like. As I read it I was thinking of the thousands of women we've served over the years who have needed to hear this message, and I'm so very happy to be able to have a book to recommend that I know will hit the spot.

This book truly is a breath of fresh air. I strongly and without apology recommend it, and will be placing it prominently throughout our website and resources. Not because anyone is twisting my arm, but because we really believe in it. I know you will too.

- Constance Rhodes, Founder and CEO, FINDINGbalance. Author, Life Inside the "Thin" Cage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!! May 8, 2012
Format:Paperback
Inside this book, I found the words of a woman who, like me, struggled with being unhappy with her self image and feeling helpless to change it. I found some answers written in a way that I can understand. I found that this struggle with self image is not so much a physical problem, but an emotional one.

Throughout this book, Teasi Cannon engages the reader in a way that makes this book a hard one to put down! I read it while waiting in line waiting for my sons to get out of school, I read it before I went to bed, I woke up wanting to dig into this book and learn more about how this woman changed her life through trusting her Heavenly Father to do what he said he would.

My favorite part of this book are the little vignettes of the author and the voices in her head. Many of them sounded very familiar to me!

This book is packed with some fabulous resources. There are discussion questions at the end of each chapter. They can be used as personal journaling questions or they can be used for group discussions. There is also a prayer at the end of each chapter. I liked her prayers because I felt comfortable reciting them. They felt like my own prayers. Each chapter is also adorned with some Bible verses for final reflection. The verses are written out for you so you can read them straight from the book. This was convenient.

I whole-heartedly recommend this book to Christian women who struggle with self-esteem issues or who find themselves unable to move to a place with God that they feel like they should be. Check out this book- you won't be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book! July 11, 2012
By GiGi
Format:Paperback
When I was asked if I wanted to review My Big Bottom Blessing, I had two thoughts... 1st-I was so excited to read it and 2nd...I couldn't help wondering if someone had seen a photo of my own 'big bottom'!

I love Teasi Cannon's writing style. She tells of her inner and outer struggles with her weight and self esteem and she's so honest that I found myself cringing and wondering if maybe-just maybe she'd been taking a peek at my own journals.

Her journey wasn't an easy one and honestly, it could have been a tough read. But this beautiful woman sprinkled her story with humor and grace, even giving the reader questions at the close of each chapter. Those questions made the book very personal for me, forcing me to dig deeper into my own issues and giving me solid truths to take away.

In a world obsessed with body image this book brings hope and I don't know any woman who wouldn't benefit from reading about Teasi's journey.
