My Bodyworks: Songs about Your Bones, Muscles, Heart and More! [With CD (Songs)]

Teacher Jane Schoenberg and her husband Steven, a Musician, have teamed up to create a wonderful book/CD combo explaining to kids all about how the body works. The songs deal with body functions like movement and muscles, the brain, breathing, and even passing gas. They not only wrote the book but they also perform all of the songs. The music was quite fun and my three year old enjoys many of the songs. The lyrics are catchy, here is an example:

Your brain keeps sending messages right out,
Tells you to be quiet, and tells you when to shout,
Tells you when you're happy, tells you when you're sad,
Tells you when you're feeling hot or cold or hurting bad.

Simple but rhythmic which kids will enjoy. Nicely illustrated as well. Great for pre-schoolers up to grade 1 at least.

This book is great. The illustrations are wonderful, and the CD is the first children's CD that we can listen to again and again.

We have given many copies as gifts. Children and parents have been pleased with both the book and the music.

As a longtime babysitter, and a childhood Raffi junkie, my standards for 'children's music' have always been high. Finally, after 10 years of suffering the popularity of 'Barney' , we have an antidote! This book/CD has music that kids love and I actually ENJOY. The sophistication of the songs, the intelligence of the lyrics, and the up-beat pace all keep me interested. The kids just start to move, almost unwittingly, which allows them get their energy out in a positive way. Definitely a long car ride keeper.

My Bodyworks is amazing. The songs are cool, but the fart song really blew me away! You can learn a lot about your body by singing along and following the words in the book. Even my parents (who don't usually get a kick out of this kind of stuff) loved it.

I ordered this book/cd for my daughter's upcoming 4th birthday. I haven't been able to resist listening to the songs. I'm listening to them often on my own when she is at preschool because I really enjoy it.

The songs are educational and the music is easy listening and enjoyable for adults as well as children. The songs are by Jane and Steven Schoenberg and the fun illustrations in the lyric book are by Cynthia Fish.

The songs included are: "Bones, Bones, Bones", "It's your Muscles", "Keep the Beat", "Teeth are Neat", "Everyone Passes Gas", "Brain Power", "Inhale, Exhale", "Amazing Senses", "Amazing Senses", "Have Fun with your Hair", "Skin's In", "On the Move", and "Celebrate our Bodies".

I love this idea of learning through music and I don't know why there aren't tons of CD's available out there like this. Kids can memorize jiggles from commericals--if they are going to learn stuff about hamburgers from jiggles why can't they learn everything thing else they need to know. Education should be fun and music is the universal language.

My favorite songs are "Bones, Bones, Bones", "Everyone Passes Gas", and "Celebrate our Bodies".

"Everyone Passes Gas" is delightful--it's humorous and tasteful at the same time. I tell you it's such a relief to not have to hold in a toot anymore. When I was a kid they didn't have books like "Everyone Poops" and "The Gas We Pass--The Story of Farts".
You never saw the Brady Bunch kids pass gas. What a wonderful thing that kids today don't have to feel shame about their bodies.

"Celebrate our Bodies" is a beautiful song about the bodies that we have. I love the chorus and the way it's sung--"Let's celebrate our bodies, Be glad for who we are, Because we're very special. Indeed, we all are stars."

My daughter hasn't heard this album or seen the lyric book that comes along but she is a body freak and I think she will love to receive this for her birthday. I'm also hoping to buy a copy for her wonderful preschool teacher and her class. I think it would be a great learning tool to do together and pleasent music to listen to as they participate in free time play.

I truly wish there were more educational CD's out there for children like this one.

Finally, there is a book that actually caters to the age when children first start to become more aware of and curious about their bodies! One of my babysitting charges always reached for the book about human anatomy during reading time...and although she enjoyed it for the pictures, I was disappointed by how "clinical" the text was. I can't wait to share this delightful book and CD with her - my only complaint is that "My Bodyworks" wasn't around when I was a kid!

I use this book and CD in my 2nd grade classroom. The kids love it and they don't even realize they're learning.

Jane Schoenbergs childrens book My Bodyworks is a very informative well illustrated and imagnitive look at body and health from a kids point of view for what the book cost it also comes with a sing a long audio cd that comes with various styles of music sure to get your feet moving this is proboably one of the best if not the best childrens health book around not mention the audio cd makes it that much better definatly worth checking out

This was not at all what I expected. I got the impression that it was a story book about the body with an added CD. What it actually is, is a CD with an attached lyric book (a few illustrations here and there). The CD is fun. The lyrics are charming and chalk full of information. The musical arrangements are actually pretty good - certainly a lot better than much of the "children's music" I've heard. Think School House Rocks.

I heard about this through NPR, where the authors were interviewed . The book and CD met or exceeded all expectations, with the caveat that I had hoped for broader appeal. This is being used in Kindergarten classes at St. Edward School in Dana Point. It is both entertaining and instructional.
