GOT ME FIENDIN'......,
By MOMMIE4LYFE "SMOOCHES......" (San Diego, CA) - See all my reviews

I bought this cd a while back and listened to it while washing my car. Somehow or another, it ended up wedged between the arm rest and my seat and I completely forgot about it. Yesterday, while washing my car (I washed it a couple of times between then and now, but I guess I didn't do a thorough job those times...ha, ha) I found it and listened to it again. I continued to listen to it after I was done and again all day today.
This is a wonderful solo album from K-Ci. Took me back to the days when I used to hang out and party...been awhile since I've done that, but this CD took me there. Old skool flava with the taste of today. K-Ci is and has always been quite capable of entertaining and making you "feel" his music, and he doesn't disappoint here! In My Book, this is a staple. I highly recommend this CD to everyone!!

"MY BOOK" is my Choice!,
By Lemont Mann "Mann" (Honolulu, HI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My Book (Audio CD)
K-Ci finally releases a solo record and a nice one at that, From the beginning he gives you that old Jodeci feel with "My Book" but then steps right into what's going on today without comprimising himself. "It's All Love with KansasCali" is classic kinda reminds you "Toss It Up" with K-Ci & JoJo, "Conversation" is very soulful and K-Ci gives you great emotion on the song. "Thug By Heart" is one of those songs you either hate it or love it. I love it... Layzie did his thing on that and the beat is thumpin. "Ghetto Woman" is my favorite the soul in that is rediculous and pretty much tells the truth "Aint nothing like a ghetto woman!", "Woman Gotta Have It" has that RKelly steppers vibe, if you like to step this is definately your song. It don't hurt the fact that Bobby Womack did it first, kudos to the producer. "I Apologize" reminds you of the famous K-Ci & JoJo song "All My Life" "Much To Soon" a tribute to the old school... Aaron Hall sounds really good! Al B. Sure sounds like Al B. Sure of old. It was great to hear all the classic voices!
All in all for K-Ci this is a great coming out CD for him **5 Stars**. Who says you have to have big name producers, this record is hot and having big names will do nothing but have you sounding like everybody else that uses them. K-Ci I am glad you broke the mold and tried something different, we are finally going back to real music. My favorites are 3,6,7,11,13,16! Now all I need is a new Jodeci record and we good!

Great album,

Although K-Ci's solo album may have further delayed the Jodeci album, this album is a fantastic effort by K-Ci. Great vocals and great tracks. Ghetto Woman, Baby I'm Back and You are some of my favourite tracks. Although we maybe use to hearing K-Ci always performing with his little brother JoJo, K-Ci really did shine on this album and it is a shame there was so little marketing and promotion of this album! Go out and buy it, it is the closest thing to Jodeci you'll get for a while!

Love it!,

This is a great cd although it had very poor promotion. I love the cd because it is smooth, soulful, sexy and easy listening. One thing for sure, K-Ci has raw undeniable talent. Much success with your new cd K-Ci, you did good baby!

I had different expectations for this album, so I was completely surprised by the topics of the songs. I wasn't expecting K-Ci to be singing about the hood, ghetto women, and something about a thug. What I was expecting was more songs like Conversation and Woman's Gotta Have It. This album is a far stray from the albums with Jo Jo and a much farther stray from the Jodeci days. The lyrics are disappointing. Hey, but you decide for yourself. It seems like more people than not likes this album. You can have mine.

If u were a fan of the Kci & JoJo albums u will enjoy this one. This isn't the same Kci from Jodeci; the voice is noticeably different though he does have moments where the old Kci shines through. I think the production was one of the strengths of the album, which shouldn't surprise anyone who has followed Kci's career. Of course the ballads are the best songs on the album due to singing style. "apologize" "womans gotta have it" "you" and "much to soon" are the high points of the album, as Kci uses his voice extremely well on these tracks. "Ghetto Woman" and "Converstation" are two well put together tracks with a mordern soul feel; the former may not be something all can relate to but the vocals and production should capture most listeners. Two songs that have grown on me are the title track "My Book" and "Soldier", which to me they feel like they could be Jodeci lost tracks. "Care for You" is another solid track with an uplifting feel to it that can certainly grown on you. The rest of the songs in my opinion are misses and not worth metnioning. 9 out of 15(the intro makes 16) tracks with a rating of 7/10 to 10/10 is certainly a good album. I give it a solid B(83/100) and a must have for any Kci or Kci & JoJo fan.

If you like Jodeci, then you'll love this solo album by their frontman K-Ci Hailey. Just a well put together cd. Great vocals by K-Ci and great collaborations with Aaron Hall of Guy, Al B. Sure!, and Layzie Bone of Bone, Thugs and Harmony. K-ci does a nice remake of Mr. Bobby Womack's classic hit "Woman's Gotta Have It"

this album is very late in the making. We the listening people, wanted this album when he was with jodeci!!! Before his voice went to this bobby womack transformation. You'll find about 3 songs you can listen to all the way through! Not the same k-ci that was with jodeci. I know how this sounds, this album needs better production! From the words, beats, and chorus. Like ronald isley, charlie wilson, needed, k-ci needs a good producer & songwriter to rejuvenate his career!! To name a few, R Kelly, Anthony Hamilton, Bryan Cox (from joe albums and many artists)and timbaland. These guys can write & produce soul for him, especially anthony hamilton!!! All in all the album is ok!
