PreSchool-Grade 2-This charming book of prayer and thanksgiving begins with the words "Dear God." Each verso has only two sentences: a "Thank you-" for an acknowledged blessing and a "Help me-" that is a request for assistance in being a good person. Topics include family, friends, playtime, the Earth, and the future. Lighthearted, colorful pictures appear on the right, and both text and art are surrounded by a crisp, white backdrop. The joy-filled watercolor vignettes depict an array of people illustrating the themes. For example, the painting that elucidates "Thank you for good things to eat. Help me remember those who are hungry," shows a child and adult sharing their box of popcorn with a flock of birds. Expressing gratitude for good fortune and the desire for continued selfless behavior is pleasantly demonstrated in this volume.

PreS. In this prayer book for young children, each prayer of thanks is balanced by a petition for help: "Thank you for me!" is followed by "Help me grow strong in body, mind, and spirit." Some prayers are about others ("Thank you for my friends. Help me to comfort those who are lonely."), and others are about one's self. The clean design features prayers on one side on white paper, with bright watercolors on the facing page showing children in a variety of settings. This book, with cheerful illustrations, is delightful! Perfect for teaching your little one about what it means to be thankful! This is one of those books I not only enjoy reading, but it has a lasting value as it teaches an important lesson in thankfulness. Wonderful book for little ones & you'll enjoy it too.

I bought this book for my 3yr old and 5 yo. We pray at night together, and sometimes they are at a loss of what they could be thankful for. I ask them what is something you are thankful for that happened today? This book has possiblities to open their imaginations and give them ideas of what to be thankful for. God's creation, Family, food, playtime, friends, toys, and most especially for God loving me. Sometimes a book can get a message across so much more than my recommendations. I am glad that I purchased this book.

My four year old really enjoys reading this book as do I. The words are as appealing and beautiful as the illustrations. It was a Thanksgiving gift, but we continue to read it year round, to remind us of all we have to be thankful for. It is a wonderful book and a great gift!
