My Brest Friend Deluxe Nursing Pillow, Chocolate, 0-12 Months

I wish they would make these available to all women who want to nurse while they are in the hospital. All that was available to me were the standard pillows in the room, which make positioning the baby and the mother awkward at best. Positioning suffered so badly using regular pillows that nursing was inefficient and frustrating for both my baby and me--and also back-breaking for me. My Brest Friend (Deluxe) to the rescue.

Pros:
*The foam pillow improves positioning of both mother and child, as it provides back support for the mother and a firm surface for the child to rest on, preventing her from rolling into or away from the breast; the lumps offer extra support for the baby's head.
*The latch, which makes the pillow like a giant belt, allows the mother to reposition herself with relative ease. (She doesn't have to move 10 pillows to get comfortable.) This feature also allows the mother to wear the pillow and then pick up her child from the crib or bassinet, instead of having to get the child and then set her aside while the mother either fits a different nursing pillow around herself or builds the pillow fortress that will act as support.
*The latch is attached to an adjustable strap so the pillow can fit someone else or grow and shrink with you. (My husband wears it when he wants extra support holding our daughter.)
*The cover is machine washable and made of soft, minky-like fabric.
*The pocket is great for keeping necessities at hand: baby-safe hand sanitizer, cell phone (for calls and keeping track of feedings), clippers (as I've found no better opportunity for her manicure than when she's milk drunk).

Cons:
*This is the most spendy of the nursing pillows I've seen.
*The foam pillow and plush cover aren't made of materials that are very healthy for either people or the environment.
*The pillow should really have a waterproof protector to keep breast milk, drool, urine, or stool from soiling the foam. (And yeah, all of these will probably end up on your Brest Friend or other nursing pillow.)
*The pillow doesn't offer enough back support for me, so I need to squeeze another pillow or two behind my back.
*When you inevitably have to wash the cover, the pillow's comfort and function is, of course, compromised.
*A second cover, for when you have to launder the original, is costly, too, and some of the covers do not seem to be made very well (according to the reviews for the non-plush versions).

Overall, I would recommend the product. It makes the challenge of positioning yourself and your baby much less challenging. However, much could be done to improve this nursing pillow.

Wouldn't really consider myself truly plus size but I guess I am. I'm a size 14 and this just didn't fit well. I wanted to love it bc if it fit it would have worked and been so much more comfortable than the bobby that I'm stuck with but it just didn't fit. I couldn't see spending the $50+ on the twin model that says it fits plus sizes so I just went with a bobby which I really don't love but have no choice.

Pros:
1. The latch on this is really helpful. I can strap it on, pick up baby, and settle down to nurse without having to arrange a bunch of pillows. When I have to move to reposition or reach for something I can do so without disturbing Baby.

2. The back support is great. I have back problems and sitting can be really uncomfortable. This makes sitting in a rocker or couch comfortable, which is wonderful since I spend a lot of time sitting and nursing.

3. The pocket is really handy--I can always have breast cream, breast pads, or a binky in reach.

4. The foam is nice and firm to support Baby.

5. The strap is long enough to fit both me and my husband easily (he'll use it sometimes to support Baby when he's holding him for long periods of time).

6. The cover is removable and washable. I washed it and air dried it and had no problems getting it back on. It also dried surprisingly fast--it was dry by the next time I nursed.

Cons:
1. The foam on the side where it latches isn't very wide (see the picture). If you like nursing with the "football hold" it won't be wide enough on that side to support Baby.

2. The bumps seem a little pointless to me; they aren't in the right spot to support Baby's head.

3. The one thing that seems better about the Boppy is that you can use it to prop up Baby in a sitting position or for tummy time. I might buy a Boppy just for that.

4. I wish it had a waterproof cover.

5. It would be nice if this was a little thicker and had a wedge shape to keep Baby close to your body. I prop another thin pillow under it to get Baby in the right position.

While it could be better, this is still one of my favorite baby products. Nursing is such a big part of your life with a newborn, and anything that makes it easier is wonderful.

I had a Boppy with my first kid and 19 months later, had a second. I bought this nursing pillow b/c of recommendations on thebump.com. So glad I did! I LOVE it! It looks a little odd when it's on, especially if you are standing to pick up the baby or whatever. But it's well worth it. Makes nursing SO much easier. I have recommended this to every pregnant person I know!

I am nursing my fourth baby girl, and with the other three I didn't have one of these. I honestly don't know how I got by with just couch pillows! This nursing pillow positions baby perfectly, and it's very comfortable! I especially love the chocolate colored slipcover, which I've already run through the wash and the color hasn't faded a bit!

This pillow is fantastic. I absolutely love everything about it. The shape is just perfect for nursing baby with every hold. I love that you can fasten the buckle to keep it secure to your body so baby won't slip down between you and the pillow and the flat bottom helps too. I also like the little mounds that props baby's head up so you don't have to hunch over for baby to latch. Being able to remove the cover is just genius when baby spits up on it. I was looking at the boppy pillow to buy before I found this pillow and I am so glad I did find this one.

I am a first time mom. My son is 7 weeks old, and I had originally been using a boppy pillow I found at a garage sale for $2. I am 5'2" and 194 pounds, petite and chunky, so the Boppy pillow really just caused more frustration. I had to hold my son in the football hold to get him to latch on. The Boppy was not high enough to lift him where he needed to be, so I still had to use pillows under it to get it to support him, and I always had to hold on to him or he would slide away from the breast. After 7 weeks of frustration, I started to research other options for plus size moms, and I found a lot of people recommended this pillow.

I am so thrilled with my purchase! As I said, I am a plus size mom. I wear a size 18 in jeans, and the Boppy pillow did not fit around my rib cage. It also caved in the middle. This pillow adjusts to fit even larger women than myself. The clip is very easy to use. The pillow lifts the baby where he needs to be and is nice and firm. I love the bumps that lift his head to the breast. The back support is also a great feature. For the first four weeks of my son's life, I was having major issues. I live in a rural area, and there is no lactation consultant in our hospital. I had moments where I thought I would give up and just pump exclusively. I could not get my son to latch properly because I couldn't see how he was latching in the football hold. Also, because I am large breasted, I could not reach under my breast to flip his bottom lip out. With this pillow, I can see the sides of his lips and make sure they are always flared out. This has reduced so much of my pain.

I highly recommend this pillow to anyone. Keep the Boppy for propping the baby during those quiet alert moments of the day. It works great for allowing the baby to face you so you can "chat." :)

Experienced or not, this makes nursing easier. My wife loves the versatility it gives her with nursing the baby. It also serves a platform to hold the baby while performing other tasks, especially at the newborn - young infant stage.

Recommended.

I LOVE this pillow! You must buy this- forget the Boppy or any others- you can strap this pillow to you at the height the you need- don't try to nurse without this!

I went out when my newborn was only 9 days old to buy myself the My Brest Friend pillow. I had been using a Boppy, but being petite (5'1", 120lbs currently), the Boppy did not come close to my body. Also, my son who was born at 7lb 1oz would sink down in between me and the Boppy, even when I tried to place a blanket in the space, I was constantly readjusting it and shifting both of us around.

My Brest Friend (MBF) allows you to position the pillow at exactly the right height, and come flush against your body (no extra blanket required)! I do keep a receiving blanket draped over the MBF, but simply to keep it clean from spit-up. I love the little pocket, where I keep my lanolin cream, which I used to always misplace!

The only con that I can think of is that if you have a small stomach, the MBF pillow may tilt down a slight bit putting pressure where you have it strapped. I ease this with a thin pillow underneath, but that's more out of comfort than necessity. It does not tilt the baby at all, and he is still able to latch on much better. I would recommend this pillow to any breastfeeding (or bottlefeeding) mom wanting to get close to their newborn while being comfortable! The Boppy may work better as baby gets bigger, but for small women, the MBF is a much better fit!!
