5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Boppy, easy to clean, use it standing up!, April 3, 2007
This review is from: My Brest Friend Pillow, Sunburst (Baby Product)
The removable cover (zipper) makes this easy to clean (just make sure the velcro is stuck to itself when you wash it or it will stick to all your nice socks.

My wife tried a boppy for the first month then got this, which she used continually for the next year.

You can even use it standing up or when you move around since the strap goes around your back. The strap also provides back & lumbar support. The pocket is a nice touch (you put your Lansinoh, cell phone, baby nail clippers, etc in it) The only possible downside is it isn't that easy to put on with one hand (for example, if you are already cradling the baby)

If you're price sensitive look around, there are often significant discounts for older colors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great nursing pillow!, October 26, 2009
By

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I used a Boppy with my first three children, and wanted to try this one out with my fourth. I'm now using both this one and the Boppy, depending on what I'm doing, where I am, etc. I will say that I like both nursing pillows, but in different ways. This one has great back support if where you're nursing the baby at the time doesn't provide it (though it's still nice even if you're in a chair that has good support), it allows you to get up and move around while nursing the baby (a definite bonus if you've got more than one child), offer good support for a nursing baby, and has a handy pocket hanging off the front to stash small things in if you need to. The cover is also relatively easy to get on and off if you need to do so to wash it, though I wouldn't say it's any easier than the Boppy with a cover - neither really has a major advantage over the other in this category. The primary disadvantage the My Brest Friend has compared to the Boppy is that it doesn't work nearly as well if it's unbuckled, so you have to take the time to buckle it before you can start nursing the baby, which can potentially be a hassle if you have a baby that's firmly convinced he or she must eat NOW. I will also say that sometimes the little bumps on the pillow that appear to be designed to help position the baby's head can sometimes be annoying if you don't have the pillow positioned exactly right, though that's really just a minor annoyance at times.

I still like my old Boppys at times as well, since they are easier to throw on and sit down with quickly, but it does prevent you from being able to get up and move around, since standing up pretty much just causes the Boppy to fall off, and because it doesn't buckle on, it has the possibility to being harder to get everyone positioned just right for nursing - the fact that the My Brest Friend attaches to you means you can move it up higher more easily than the Boppy. The My Brest Friend definitely has some nice features that the Boppy doesn't have. If I could have given this four and a half stars I would have, as the only reason I would take off half a star is the hassle of having to get it fastened to work well. Ultimately, if you can do so, it would probably be best to try on different nursing pillows and see what works best for you, since the best pillow is going to be the one that helps you nurse your baby the easiest. But this is definitely one I would suggest trying out if you can do so - it's a very nice, well done product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mom of 3--best baby product I have, November 13, 2007
This review is from: My Brest Friend Pillow, Sunburst (Baby Product)
I breastfed my first child for 18 months and my second child for 16 months--and I am so upset I didn't know about this product! Now I'm breastfeeding my third child and I wear this pillow at least 6 hours a day. It's so comfortable that I just leave it on sometimes after he falls asleep! I can walk upstairs, answer the phone, vacuum--whatever--and he doesn't wake up. He's only 10 pounds and the pillow supports his weight; I just keep a hand on him for safety. It offers great back support and it fits while I'm sitting in my computer chair (with arms). The Boppy is bulky and makes you completely immobile; the Brest Friend is a much better choice. Did I mention I love this pillow? I'm wearing it right now!

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny looking but worth it..., May 25, 2008
I purchased this product after reading multiple reviews on this site and others. I am very glad I did...

After the initial laughter when it arrived (my husband put it on and carried our small dog around on the pillow to "practice" for the baby)--we found it essential.

One caveat, be sure to order the correct size (I lucked out and randomly ordered the size that fit me... didn't know they had multiple sizes to choose from).

3.0 out of 5 stars Wait until after the baby is born, January 7, 2010

This product seems great, but I recommend you buy it after your baby is born. My wife asked me to order this from Amazon during our third trimester in preparation for the delivery. However, if you end up with a c-section or other surgical intervention during your delivery, she has found this product is not easy to use because of the pressure it puts on your abdomen. The pain is there for about a month or sometimes slightly longer. By time she was able to use the product, our baby was much bigger and she found it uncomfotable to hold him on the pillow. However, many of our friends have used it with their babies for much longer, which is why I recommend you wait until after the baby comes to buy this product. Your hospital should have one you can borrow while you are there - that way you can figure out if this works well for you and order it accordintgly.

5.0 out of 5 stars The superior breastfeeding pillow!, April 8, 2010
After struggling with breastfeeding for several days, I visited a lactation consultant who popped a My Brest Friend around my waist. I was instantly in love. I had been using a Boppy pillow, and hadn't even realized how difficult it was to use - too soft, and it was constantly slipping off my waist and forcing me to readjust while simultaneously cradling my newborn (who often needs to be held with two hands to stay latched).

The biggest advantages of the My Brest Friend are that it is firm and almost completely flat (with two short "humps" to support baby's head). This allows me to maintain proper arm position throughout a feeding. The Boppy was too soft and my arms would sink into the pillow, which seems counterintuitive, since the point of a breastfeeding pillow is to elevate and support your arms while nursing. I felt like I was still having to lift my baby during a feed, whereas the My Brest Friend does that work for me, sparing my arms, neck and upper back.

Another advantage is the waist strap, which the Boppy doesn't have. This allows the pillow to remain steady throughout the feeding, no readjustments necessary (especially good if you have a squirmy baby or one who likes to delatch constantly, like I do). I just put the pillow around my waist, buckle the strap and I'd be good to go for an entire day if I needed to! This also means that you can wear it around the house as much as you want, and always be ready to feed your baby without having to leave the room to find the pillow. (Of course, this depends on your tolerance for wearing a pillow around your waist, but I find it convenient at times.)

I also like the little pocket - very convenient for storing small things that you might need during a feeding. I keep a lip balm, the baby's Vitamin D drops and a few other things in there.

I still use my Boppy - my baby likes to hang out in it, and I'm sure it'll come in handy for "tummy time" later on, but for breastfeeding, My Brest Friend is the way to go. It's not as attractive as the Boppy (especially when you take the cover off - I was surprised to see that it was just a naked piece of foam, which means that you HAVE to keep a cover on at all times, so make sure you get an extra), and the name is silly, but it's by far the more practical product. It's saved my sanity in these first few weeks, and my baby and I are much happier for having discovered it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good concept - not-so-great implementation, May 14, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We had a Boppy pillow with our first child (now 5 years old) that we used with our 2nd child (now 2 years old). Upon the arrival of the 3rd, the Boppy was showing its age and did not offer much support. I liked the concept of the buckle latch keeping the pillow in the same location even when moving around to get comfortable. The pillow is as advertised - very supportive. However, the latch is testy (doesn't always hold) and when we took the cover off to wash the first time, the pillow ripped into two pieces. It still functions, but the latch and the durability of the interior pillow make it seem like a cheap item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome for First time moms and for newborns, May 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: My Brest Friend Pillow, Sunburst (Baby Product)
I am a first time mom and breastfeeding.. initially I had tried Boppy, but the baby was so small (~ 7Lbs 5Oz) that he would just sink into it and not be very comfortable at all. So, I ended up using pillows and my arm to prop him up to feed, leading to some wrist ache and complicated maneuvering during each feeding.

When I first used the Brestfriend it was the best thing ever, suddently one of my arms was free, the baby was super comfortable and my wrist stopped aching, and I did not have to bend so much anymore. I am tall 5'8 and this worked extermely well for me (unlike Boppy where I had to Hunch over). I have been using it over 3 weeks now and I still love it. It made breastfeeding a pleasure for both me and the baby!

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect but well worth it!!!, August 4, 2009
I used this pillow for nearly every feeding with my son for a year. It was terrific for the back support, especially, when you didn't have a good chair nearby. It was also very firm and never lost its shape despite my frequent use. As for the reviews that said it's hard to put on and off without using both hands, well I didn't have that problem because you don't HAVE to snap the thing into place. It will go around your waste and around your back just fine without you securing it and stay there. In fact, the only time I really needed to secure it was when I knew I was going to be shifting around. Then I simply put it on before I picked up my baby. It was never an issue!

The only con was that it was hard to get the slip cover back on after washing since the foam is so firm. I had to work on getting it to be the right shape again. But that won't deter me from using this pillow again with my second child. I'm actually looking forward to it!

5.0 out of 5 stars 10X Better than Boppy, easy to clean, use it standing up!, June 30, 2009
The removable cover (zipper) makes this easy to clean (just make sure the velcro is stuck to itself when you wash it or it will stick to all your nice socks.)

My wife tried a boppy for the first month then got this, which she used continually for the next year. She has used it for all 3 of our children and the foam hasn't lost it's shape. In comparison, The stuffing on the Boppy my sister loaned us was pretty flat after she used it for only one child.
