5.0 out of 5 stars Reba's Triumph
FOR MY BROKEN HEART is Reba McEntire's most honest, emotional offering, and her most consistent effort. The album was Reba's first new album in a few years, after the tragic death of her band on a plane. The pain and remorse is evident in her voice, on the title track, which is one of her best songs from the 90's. Elsewhere, the album offers other great songs which will...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Country Sound from Reba
I am not a Reba McEntire fan. Someone gave me this album. She is a pleasant enough singer, but has a bit too much country twang that I don't like very well, such as you hear with Loretta Lynn, who I can't stand. But it is tolerable and the album will probably delight Reba's fans. I can take it or leave it. One bright spot for me was the song "The Night That The...

5.0 out of 5 stars Reba's Triumph, February 7, 2002
This review is from: For My Broken Heart (Audio CD)
FOR MY BROKEN HEART is Reba McEntire's most honest, emotional offering, and her most consistent effort. The album was Reba's first new album in a few years, after the tragic death of her band on a plane. The pain and remorse is evident in her voice, on the title track, which is one of her best songs from the 90's. Elsewhere, the album offers other great songs which will forever be remembered. "Is There Life Out There" is another great song about a mother who is working a job, raising two kids and going to college. Its a spirited performance by Reba, who gives the song life. Her cover of "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" is a great performance as well, as if the song was written for her to sing it. The album shows Reba's ability as a singer to convey different emotions and to get the message she wants to send out to the listener. Other highlights include "He's In Dallas", "If I Had Only Known" and "Buying Her Roses". A must have. Give it a listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intensely emotional, November 12, 2003
This review is from: For My Broken Heart (Audio CD)
Reba McEntire's 1991 album FOR MY BROKEN HEART is her most personal, endearing album. It is intensely emotional, start to finish. This came out right after a plane crash killed her band manager and 6 band members. I recently rediscovered this album, and it comes at a very important time in my life. My father is slowly dying and this music just speaks to me. The way she sings is so heartbreaking, but her command is not overbearing. "The Greatest Man I Never Knew" is so sad but a beautiful, beautiful song. "If I Had Only Known" is very sad too, a song about wishing we knew when people would die so we could hold onto those last moments. The title track is a killer, "I guess the world didn't stop for my broken heart", so sad but a great song. I love the ballad "I Wouldn't Go That Far", a beautiful ballad about not being ready for various stages of love. "Is There Life Out There" was a modest hit, and gave us one of Reba's best videos. Her version of "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" is excellent and classic Reba. This is one of her best albums, if not the best album she's ever recorded.

5.0 out of 5 stars Immaculate!, June 11, 2000
This review is from: For My Broken Heart (Audio CD)
Absolutely the best Reba album of all time! As much as I cried just listening to this album, I don't know how she got through the recording process. It's the most painful album I've ever listened to. Bus as sad as these songs are, they serve as a reminder that life is so short, and to appreciate every moment that you have with the ones that you love. It is an album about loss, but also one about hope and the resilience of the human spirit.

Although For My Broken Heart is probably the most well known of the songs on the album, Bobby is the heartbreaker. A vivid montage of Bobby in prison, his son, and the heartbreaking tragedy that binds them together automatically pops into your mind and it's as if a movie is going on right inside of your head. In the end when the son offers Bobby his forgiveness and his love, the song will have you weeping aloud.

No matter what musical genre you search, you will never find a better album than this one. Maybe some that equal it, but none better. It is a masterpiece and one to be cherished forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Healing Album Ever, October 27, 2001

This album was issued shortly after the death of my son. I was driving to work when a local radio station played "If I had only known". I had to pull to the side of the road with tears streaming down my cheeks. Now I treat each day as if it's my last on this earth. I make sure everyone knows how I feel and nothing is left unsaid.

There are great songs on this CD including "The Greatest Man I Never Knew" for those of us who wish we knew our fathers better, but the last song is the one which started me on the road to dealing with my son's death.

I'm afraid that because this CD is so sad that it will be overlooked by many future fans. I hope not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest sad CD ever!, October 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: For My Broken Heart (Audio CD)
This CD really brings out Reba's great voice and it really describes what she was going through with the crash that took her band members lives. I dont think i could have done that. She deserves so much credit for being able to perform this with different voices and people standing behind her. I definitely recommend this to EVERYONE Reba fan or not!

My husband of 33 years passed away on February 17th of this year. Reba's song, "If I had only known" speaks volumes to me, and has been a wonderful comfort to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS ONE DESERVES FIVE STARS AND MORE, September 29, 2005
This review is from: For My Broken Heart (Audio CD)
While not in keeping with traditional country, this CD is breathtakingly beautiful nonetheless because the songs are first class material and the arrangements are perfect! This is the best of Reba in the 90s.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reba's Most Heartfelt Album, September 12, 2002

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: For My Broken Heart (Audio CD)
"For My Broken Heart" is Reba's most heartfelt album. Many of the songs touch your emotions with the ferocity of a live wire, while others gently tug at your heart with sublime subtlety. The human condition in all it's frailty has always been the benchmark of the best country songs, and Reba is especially unique in her deliverance of sad ballads. Like Patsy Cline, Reba is at her best when singing songs about sadness, tragedy and loss. "Bobby" is an endearing tune about a man who goes to prison for taking the life of his terminally ill wife, and his embittered son who slowly comes to understand why. "He's In Dallas" recounts the crumbling of a young woman's marriage and the loss of dreams. One of the most touching songs has to be "All Dressed Up (With Nowhere To Go), a sad tune about an elderly woman living in a retirement home, forgotten by her family as if she has none. "Buying Her Roses", "The Greatest Man I Never Knew" and "I Wouldn't Go That Far" have become classics. There is also a very good remake of "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia". The title cut, "For My Broken Heart" set the mood of the album, but the last song "If I Had Only Known" is the the most touching of all. Although the album liner notes don't identify it as "in memory of" the members of her band that she tragically lost, it seems to speak for itself. One can't listen to this song without shedding tears. This is a phenomenal album, albeit a sad one. In Reba's own words: "It seems your current emotional status determines what music you'd like to hear. That's what happened on the song selection for this album. If for any reason you can relate to the emotion packed inside these songs, I hope it's a form of healing for all our broken hearts." What can I add to that? Just this. Listen. Feel. Understand.
