3.0 out of 5 stars wonderful if factual
I thought this book was excellent. Written by a Hungarian Jew who barely survived the Shoah, it takes you into the heart of evil.

What concerns me are the 1 star reviews of those who question the facts as described in Mr. Nasser's book. I am no expert with the knowledge to ascertain the level of fact versus fiction in this book and certainly will not sit in...

This review is from: My Brother's Voice: How a Young Hungarian Boy Survived the Holocaust: A True Story (Paperback)
I recently finished reading My Brother's Voice and was so moved by the story and all Mr. Nasser had to endure and witness. I cried many times while reading this book, out of sadness, horror and frustration.

In fact in recounting some of the book to my husband and non Jewish friend to illustrate a point about the pure evil of some people I couldn't even finish the story without breaking down. Reading it was one thing then to voice it out loud, and explain it to someone was overwhelming. I can't imagine what it was/is for Mr. Nasser having lived it.

Mr. Nasser's amazing inner strength and determination is a true testament to the human spirit. He has made me proud to be a Jew. I didn't grow up an observant Jew (except for high holidays, of course) and although I wasn't ashamed to be Jewish, I didn't exactly go out of my way to announce to the world I was a Jew. These past several years, I have found myself becoming more "Jewish" if you will. The more I read the more I want to know. The more I feel the more I want to scream at the world. This book is another significant layer in my growth. I can't adequately put into words what I mean at this point, but I wanted to say that this book has had a great impact on my life and hopefully through me, an impact on others as well.

Once you read this book Mr. Nasser's and his family's great losses and suffering will always be carried in your heart and with that the promise to "never forget"

5.0 out of 5 stars INSPIRING!, August 3, 2003

This review is from: My Brother's Voice: How a Young Hungarian Boy Survived the Holocaust: A True Story (Paperback)
I think this book should be required reading for all middle school aged children !! This is an amazing story of Love, Courage, and Ambition. Many lessons can be learned here. I am amazed at what young Pista was able to endure, and overcome. This is not your typical Concentration Camp Story, but a true life conquest. A tale of love and overcoming unbelievable odds. This story picks up where "Diary of Anne Frank" leaves us off.
I would love to one day meet the Author, Stephen Nasser. He must truly be an amazing and wonderful human being. Thank you for sharing your incredible lifes journey with the world!

Mr Nasser's memoirs of his harrowing experience in the Nazi death camps is a tribute to the courage and strength of a child under unspeakable conditions. His survival and ability to live a happy, productive life is truly amazing. An excellent book - well written!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Never Again", April 8, 2009
My Brother's Voice: How a Young Hungarian Boy Survived the Holocaust: A True Story
I bought this book for my son after we saw Mr. Nasser speak at the middle school. It is commendable that Mr. Nasser has written this book and continues to share his experience with teens and preteens all over the country. His message "Never again" is important. This book is easy to read, for preteens through adults, to learn of this man's nightmare experience. There is an underlying message of a young boys determination and perseverance and how people can work together and care for each other. People have to keep in mind, this book tells of the concentration camps through the eyes of a young teenager. It is not meant to be a history book of facts and figures but a book to share a young boys thoughts, feelings and experiences through his own eyes and told in his own words. It is a moving book and I recommend it to everyone to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Holocaust Through a Child's Eyes, August 5, 2003
This review is from: My Brother's Voice: How a Young Hungarian Boy Survived the Holocaust: A True Story (Paperback)
Stephen Nasser has accomplished something few writers can; he has brought the unbelievable emotions of the holocaust to our very lives nearly 60 years after the end of World War II. He writes as an adult but his memories are from his young teen years. His thoughts are nearly 60 years old through his eyes as a child.

He has endured a horrible ordeal to become a wonderful man, a man I now call "Friend". I teach him art and he teaches me about life!

No person should ever again be faced with these horrors. NEVER AGAIN!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read the book and met the author, November 26, 2011
I was able to invite the author to our high school to speak about his experiences and before he arrived I read his book. It was very powerful and moving. What I liked about it was that it was easy to read, simple but powerful, and after hearing Mr. Nasser in person it made it that much more incredible. He is on Facebook as well.

I decided to try and learn about the holocaust from a survivors stand point and i was trying to find the perfect book. this one came highly reviewed so i decided to read it. I am so glad i did. this story is so touching and heart wrenching. I fell in love with Pista and Andris immediately and went along with them on their horrendous journey through the most horrific event in history. there were times when i had to stop reading to regain my composure. Pista such a brave courageous fellow i often have to remind myself he was only a child and his loving brother Andris who I fell deeply for. this story is so sweet and tragic i read it in one day. It left me thinking of them and i believe i have a place in my heart for Andris and Pista always, for they have touched me in an infinite way. Also the horror as described in his book lets me get a full insight into the horrors the jews and others had to suffer at the hand of the worst demon to walk the earth..Hitler.

Mr. Nasser came to our school and spoke about his experience in the Holocaust. His tale is a very moving one and his book moves you emotionally and brings tears to your eyes. It expresses the horrors of the holocaust so well and gives a first-hand account of the Holocaust.
