I am an avid follower of Brenda Ponnay's work! I have long been a lurker on her blog for perhaps ten years! I really love that she has ventured out and authored children's books! Despite that she did not write this book, her illustrations are right on. They are whimsical, yet simple enough to not be overwhelming/distracting to children reading the book. Katrina did a really wonderful job of writing the book. While, I do not have children of my own, I am a speech and behavior therapist who is always on the prowl to find something novel to use in therapy that my little patients will find highly engaging and motivating. This book is on my iPad and did use it for a week straight in therapy. I liked that I could easily target articulation goals with the small CVC words (consonant vowel consonant-i.e. cat, dog, good, etc) while also I could work on some initial /s,l/ blends. Language-wise the book targets basic verbs, adjectives, and prepositions. Lastly, I liked that Katrina used repeating sentences throughout the book. For kiddos that can not yet read, they were able to anticipate the sentences and it prompted alot of spontaneous vocal production. I also made a PECs set to go with this book that I used with a few of my non-verbal kiddos in therapy. This is an awesome book and really a good teaching tool for us therapists! Thanks Brenda and Katrina for the awesome work! I am eagerly anticipating what you all dream up next!
