Chains of Love,
By Chinosan "C.C." (London. U.K.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My Chain (Audio CD)
When I heard that long time member Francis MacDonald was no longer involved in BMX Bandits I was worried. But now I find that I am surprised that this is already my favorite BMX album. There are more keyboards than guitars but Duglas (the leader of BMX Bandits) songs are beautiful, sad and sweet. The songs tell a story of lost love and although it is personal to Duglas it connects to anyone who has ever had their heart broken. Track two 4 minutes 22 is classic Bandits sunshine pop but with a sad lyric. Another favorite To A Flame sounds a little bit like Wire with Sonic Youth rehearsing in the next room. Cheese and Toast sounds like Erik Satie piano music with Cole Porter lyric. There is also a new version of The Sailor's Song which is now like gospel soul music with hammond organ. This is an album full of surprises but good surprises. This music has a big heart. If you like Scottish pop (Teenage Fanclub, Belle & Sebastian, The Vaselines, The Pastels) you should like this, it is one of the best I've ever heard.
