An Excellent Experience,

This review is from: Life on the Murder Scene (Audio CD)
I can honestly say this CD/DVD set captured my attention from beginning to end. The Video Diary chronicles the history of My Chemical Romance from their humble beginnings to the world famous group they now are. The story is told through their own words and the words of those who know them best. It is an honest documentary that deals with their struggles including the alcoholism and drug use of lead singer Gerard Way. He overcame his additions giving hope to many young people. It is refreshing to see talented musicians who stay true to themselves and their music while deeply caring for their fans. Also included are the videos from "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge". Two videos for the song "I'm Not Okay (I Promise). One is the video normally seen and the other is a video which is great because if gives up a glimpse into the homelife of the Way brothers at the time. However, not only do you get the videos you also get the "Making of the Videos". It is so interesting to see just how much work and thought goes into making these videos. On the DVD you can also find TV Appearances and Online Performances all of which are full of energy that the band is so well known for. The CD has 11 live performances which are excellent and there is even a previously unreleased jewel titled "Desert Song" which is hauntingly beautiful. "My Chemical Romance Life on the Murder Scene" is a must for any MCR fan but I believe is a a must for any music fan

Amazing, but not enough new stuff!,

Ok, so it's not a new album.
Two new songs at most, unless you don't have one of the albums. That said, the video diary is a stroke of genius: so often cds end up at the back of the cupboard, not because the music's no good by because you just can't identify with the band. The video diary here makes sure that's never going to happen: brutally honest, beautiful and full of hope: this is the story of MCR's life to date, and it's yet another reason to love them. The video diary shows MCR for what they are: five totally flawed, but at the end of the day, nice guys. This was probably my favourite part! The other dvd is also great...the live performances show just how amazing they are live (Gerard's voice...wow!), and the TV and online performances serve as a reminder of just how popular (and rightly so!) they've become. The videos and "making of..." videos are excellent, like an extension of the video diary: funny, informative, and honest. My one problem with this dvd is it plays "I'm not okay" way too many times: I know it's their most famous song, but after a while it gets ridiculous. The cd contains the highlights of the second dvd, plus 2 new songs. "Bury me in Black" was an additional song on "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge" in Japan and, well...it makes me wish I was Japanese. Great song, and inkeeping with the whole of that album, too. "Desert Song" is a huge surprise: I don't usually associate MCR with slow songs but they pull this off brilliantly, with their usual blend of beautiful guitars and Gerard Way's wonderful, angst-ridden vocals singing bittersweet lyrics right to your heart. My biggest worry about "Life on the Murder Scene" is that, as a loyal MCR fan, I totally cannot wait for their third album. Whilst LOTMS is great, interesting, exciting, beautiful, honest and well-produced, if the making of it has at all impacted on the time limit for the next album then...well, it's not worth it. As a filler in between albums, it's inspired, and I love it. But if it's been released instead of the third album, and there's going to be a between-album type gap before the third album, then I'm sorely disappointed. Because as entertaining and heart-warming as Life on the Murder Scene is, nothing can beat new music, and there just isn't that much of it here.

Excellent DVD,
This review is from: My Chemical Romance: Life on the Murder Scene [UMD for PSP] (UMD for PSP)
This is a *really* good DVD - if you're a My Chem fan you'll enjoy every minute. If you want to know more about this band, stay off the internet [as a source for MCR info]and take a look at this DVD. There's a story to tell here and it's told well. Nice pace, it's not frantic and all over the place. The video diary is arranged in chapters; you can watch it straight through or pick chapters to review, just like a movie DVD. I probably don't seem like a "typical" MCR fan [whatever that is supposed to be, anyway],but because their music is so real it has a broader appeal than one would initially expect. Watching this DVD is great because it shows you how they put it all together [and keep it together]. Nice! Enjoy this one - definitely.

If you're an ultimate My Chemical Romance fan this 2 disk DVD/CD is perfect for you. The DVD's tells everything from how the band got started to their big break and everything in between. What I love the most about the DVD's is that is had ALL of their music videos it even had the making of the videos, live concerts, and it has 2 UNRELEASED songs on the CD. If you've never heard 'Desert Ghost' or 'Bury me in Black' you're missing out on some AMAZING songs! The My Chemical Romance: Life on the Murder Scence is the best $25 I've ever spent, I recommend it to any MCR fan!

Life on the Murder Scene gives MCR fans an inside look behind the scenes of a band with a message. It is a nice filler between 3 Cheers for Sweet Revenge and The Rise and Fall of...(possibly the title of their new cd), including live performances, misic videos, and the history behind My Chemical Romance, with a little hint at what might be developing...

I have been so eager for a My Chemical Romance new release since I got into them late last year. This is what I got, and I like it..in fact I love it. But I really wish these newer bands would stop releasing live compilations. I can't stand it.
I'd rather have them release a whole concert..say where they perform every CD off "Three Cheers" and some of the stuff of "I Brought You..." It's a much more satisfying and smooth listen. The Demo's are good and the previously unreleased unused track "Desert Song" is amazingly good too. Overall I'm very happy with the DVDs as well. A good buy, only I'm pretty annoyed with Amazon lowering the price from $20 to $14 a week after it was released..I wouldn't have expected that from Amazon seeing how they almost always seem consistant with their pricing and don't pull fact ones like that. Overall it's a really good buy with tons of stuff for you to enjoy. My one upset like I said earlier is just that these new bands don't put out a whole concert, instead they put out these compilations and I really would prefer a whole live concert. There's just a better feel to it. 4/5

To start, I've read all the reviews, and laugh at the people who say "You can't like this and like that." Guess what, the very fact you're trying to tell people what they can and can't like is stupid.
Getting back to the point of the reviews, MCR has a style that is kinda hard to classify from time to time. Their style changes depending on the message, but the same basic message of being yourself is always there. I'd have to say they're better Live than not, but overall it's all good. I recommend this group and this CD to anyone who has an open appriciation of music and isn't too picky to hate something in the first few minutes. |
