5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book!
I have a 21 months old toddler who prefers Mommy's milk to any other food. I love nursing him, but I was a little bit concerned about his weight gain. I bought this book with a hope to get some strategies on how to make my baby eat:-) Instead, after I finished reading this wonderful book, I decided to stop worrying about it completely! There is right time for everything,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great, but one caution....
This book helped me stress less about my daughter's eating, and I think that's healthy for both of us. It is full of generally good sense. One concern I had was that there is no mention of the risk of low iron and anemia in babies who don't eat much in the way of solids. If your child has other risk factors for low iron (ie. fast growth, prematurity, low birth weight,...

There is right time for everything, and we need to trust our toddlers just the way we trust our babies in their eating preferences.
After I read this book, I gave it as a present to one of my friends, and I am ordering 2 more! Excellent book!!!

Before purchasing this book, I was going insane tryng to get my daughter to eat. Since reading this, I feel more at ease with her eating habits and no longer do I stress if she doesn't want to eat or eats very little. I recommend this book if you too need some reassurance about your child's eating habits and even if he/she doesn't have any issues, this book can help to prevent them from starting.

4.0 out of 5 stars So that's why kids won't eat vegi's!, July 31, 2007

This review is from: My Child Won't Eat!: How to Prevent and Solve the Problem (La Leche League International Book) (Paperback)
A wonderful book about child nutrition that puts the topic in perspective. The parent's job is to provide nutritious food and the child's job is to eat. Problems come when you try to do each other's jobs. This is not another lecture about how you are a bad mommy if your child doesn't eat vegi's, he really answers the question and takes the pressure off both parent and child.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "must read" for any parent having to deal with a food-reluctant or 'picky' kid, November 4, 2006
This review is from: My Child Won't Eat!: How to Prevent and Solve the Problem (La Leche League International Book) (Paperback)
"My Child Won't Eat!: How To Prevent & Solve The Problem" by pediatrician Carols Gonzalez is a thoroughly 'parent friendly' introduction to the common problem of getting children to eat what they are served. Blending real-life stories of maternal anguish over a child's stubborn refusal to eat with up-to-date nutritional and child-development research, Dr. Gonzalez illustrates and explains why eating problems start and how they can be avoided and treated. Forcing children to eat more than what they require can lead to tears, tantrums and even obesity. But knowing what constitutes healthful choices and meal-time strategies will result in peaceful dining and well-nourished kids. "My Child Won't Eat!" is a "must read" for any parent having to deal with a food-reluctant or 'picky' kid - and a welcome much needed addition to community library 'how-to' Parenting reference book collections for non-specialist general readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST-READ book for parents of slow-gaining babies., April 6, 2010
By
This review is from: My Child Won't Eat!: How to Prevent and Solve the Problem (La Leche League International Book) (Paperback)
This is an absolute must-read if you have ever been told your baby was in the lower percentiles on the growth chart, "failing to thrive," or to wean your baby or supplement with formula because of those problems. I've heard a rumor that it's being reprinted, and I hope that's true, because right now it's selling at its cheapest around $40 to $50.

However, I can't emphasize enough that if you've had any problem with your child's weight gain, THIS BOOK IS WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD. Dr. Gonzalez is a pediatrician in Spain, and his perspective could save you so much anguish if you feel that you have to force your child to eat.

Also, I found it immensely useful as someone who counsels breastfeeding mothers. The information about what, exactly, is in mother's milk, and how the baby "orders" exactly the composition he or she wants from mother's breastmilk on the spot to be truly enlightening.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than just food issues., January 11, 2007
This review is from: My Child Won't Eat!: How to Prevent and Solve the Problem (La Leche League International Book) (Paperback)
This book offers much more than food solutions. It helps parents learn how to listen to their children and trust their signals. This way of parenting goes against today's norm, but is a relief for families who are struggling with meeting doctor or "normal" growth chart expectations.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book!, September 20, 2006
This review is from: My Child Won't Eat!: How to Prevent and Solve the Problem (La Leche League International Book) (Paperback)
This book is fantastic. It is very readable (almost conversational) and makes total sense. It is a must read for every parent who worries about their child's diet, their relationship with food, about their weight gain. I really wish that all pediatricians and family practice doctors would read it too!

4.0 out of 5 stars Listen to what your child is trying to tell you!, November 21, 2008
By
Mama Bean (Central Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My Child Won't Eat!: How to Prevent and Solve the Problem (La Leche League International Book) (Paperback)
I recommend this book for any parent who has questions on feeding their child properly. It is extremely reassuring that you as the parent knows best. You can tell the pediatrician and your in-laws to take a hike on most feeding trends, because they are just that: trends. The order and timing of the introduction of solid foods to babies is widely variable across cultures, so you can be sure that if you give fruits before veggies instead of vice versa, you will not have done irreparable harm. And the change in recommendations over the past few decades just goes to show that any consensus on the subject will be short-lived.

Above all, the author tells us, follow your child's lead and do not force, coax or cajole him into eating something he is not interested in. All too often, we as parents are convinced by outside influences to override our own instincts, as well as our babies', with tragic consequences. Becoming in-tune with nature's way and our children's needs is critically important to their well-being. Responsible parents who are interested in nurturing healthy children from the start should also read Healing Our Children: Because Your New Baby Matters! Sacred Wisdom for Preconception, Pregnancy, Birth and Parenting (ages 0-6) by Ramiel Nagel. You will be glad you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book for all parents (-to-be), December 1, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: My Child Won't Eat!: How to Prevent and Solve the Problem (La Leche League International Book) (Paperback)
I wish I had read this book when my first child was an infant, it would have saved us a lot of trouble!
This book encourages the reader to listen to and follow the child's and their own instinct rather than the popular beliefs that standardize the individual to fit into the mold of weight and growth charts and of course nutritional charts, one size has to fit all!
A must read for all parents. I'll recommend it to everyone with pre-conceived ideas about what and how much a child needs to eat!
