Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

A dozen crayons, each being true to their respective colors, talk to a little girl as she draws pictures. Ages 4-7. (May)
Copyright 1999 Reed Business Information, Inc. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 1?If crayons could talk, what would they say, and how would they say it? Clever cartoons and rhymes have 12 crayons shouting, hooting, asking, and roaring. "Silver toots, 'Grand,/Marching band' " and "Green yells, 'Fun!/Watch me run.' " While the action is child-appealing and tickles the funny bone, the gouache, acrylic, and crayon drawings are muted rather than crayon-bright. Children will enjoy the book nonetheless, and it's a perfect vehicle for language and art activities. Be sure to have Mary O'Neill's Hailstones and Halibut Bones (Doubleday, 1989) available for those who want more in a similar vein.?Virginia Opocensky, formerly at Lincoln City Libraries, NE

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, fun, fun!, February 9, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: My Crayons Talk (Paperback)
Every child I know - my students, my children, my nieces and nephews - loves this book. The repetive refrain is perfect for beginning readers and the rhythm of the language engages young readers immediately. Your child will want to hear the story over and over. Non-readers will make up their own story but the refrain is easy and fun for them to remember and "read".

5.0 out of 5 stars Rhythmic, Colorful Fun for Children, December 15, 2004
This review is from: My Crayons Talk (Paperback)
In this title, Patricia Hubbard uses rhythm and fun to introduce colors. Children are quickly reciting the repetitive refrains with smiles on their faces as this book is introduced. G. Brian Karas' illustrations are colorful and imaginative providing good visualizations to Hubbard's imaginative, colorful ideas. The book uses a familiar crayon box to describe things that can be seen or drawn with each color. Preschoolers through beginning elementary school children love this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Summer reading for pre-school!, September 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: My Crayons Talk (Paperback)
This book was chosen as the summer reading book for my granddaughter's preschool program. At first I didn't get the point and I didn't particularly like the book, but she did. After reading it several times to her, she was able to just about quote the book herself (I guess that is what the author intended), I began to discover little things about each page that she found funny and interesting.

All in all, a good book for the 3-4 year old set!
