My Crazy Beautiful Life by Ke$ha is a book that I found on of my trips to BAM (Books-A-Million). I enjoy listening to Ke$ha's feel-good catchy pop songs so I figured I would read it. I got it at my library and read the entire book during a half hour car ride. My Crazy Beautiful Life really had a ton of humor and it was a very entertaining read.

We learn of Ke$ha's roots with being born at a party, getting accepted into Ivy Leagues like Columbia, dropping out of High School, and sneaking to Prince's house in just few pages. I was surprised but My Crazy Beautiful life was filled with tons of awesome quotes such as: "This is my dream. This is the only thing that I have been put on Earth to do and this is just the beginning."

This isn't exactly sophisticated Shakespearean text but it's definitely alot more fun to read. I particularly loved this little anecdote about glitter (for those of you who don't know Ke$ha is a glitter fanatic). When talking about glitter Ke$ha remarked: "It's like marking your territory. And if I get lost you can just follow the trail of glitter to me.....My assistant told me: 'Sometimes I think I have dandruff, but then I realize it's glitter'."

Besides all of Ke$ha's fun stories about concerts and making music, My Crazy Beautiful Life explores serious topics too. Ke$ha addresses bullying and how she was bullied for being different and an individual. "I know how it feels to be bullied; I know it can stay with you for a long time. But I always had a dream and a determined mind." Ke$ha overcame all of her haters and bullies and she didn't let them change who she is. If Ke$ha let those haters dictate and change who she is, Ke$ha wouldn't be the record-selling hit she is.

Kesha's book is really an extended tour book, jammed with previously unpublished family photos and photos from the road. The theme of the book is simply stated "be yourself, unapologetically, always". Kesha details her upbringing, emphasizing her drive and dedication to succeed in the music business. Here is what makes Kesha different from you and me: she dropped out of high school after being accepted to Ivy League colleges to chase her dream of being a successful songwriter and performer. Ask yourself, would you have the guts to do this?
Musical from birth, Kesha developed her "dance pop/rock n' roll" image over a few years and set out to produce dance pop presented in a rock and roll, party-hardy style that you could both dance and bang your head to. She knows exactly who she is and what her place in the music world is and apologizes for absolutely nothing.
She clearly states throughout the book that it is extremely important to her that her career continue, that she expand upon the successes of her first album "Animal", and that she continue to tell her fans it's ok for them to be different and themselves.
Rock can always use someone who is unique and loves a big beat, and the message that individuality is ok can never be stated enough. The text in the book can be read in an hour or two but is sufficient to give you a clear image of who Kesha is in 2012: a creative songwriter and musician who is having a blast and wants us all to loosen up and have a little more fun too.

Despite its promise of being a behind the scenes account of the last few years of Ke$ha's life as told by the singer herself, it basically becomes a half hour read that sounds like a long winded press release for the new album. There is very little bio information in the beginning, some accounts of life on tour, and it quickly turns into a "making of warrior" story.

It's not a bad read overall, just not nearly as in depth as I would have hoped. I'm a fan of the singer and would like to know more about her life and where she came from.

Kindle users beware: I purchased the kindle version to read on my iPad, only to find that with a book like this, the text is very small and you cannot zoom in.

I'm a huge Ke$ha fan and I waited for this book to come out months in advance. Overall, it's a nice, quick read, and offers a deeper look into the life of Kesha Sebert. It's more of a photo album with some text and personal musings, starting from her growing up to the writing and making of her sophomore album "Warrior". She talks about her family and her friends on the road, her experiences while touring, and working with various producers and managers. It's a little hard to tell how authentic the memoir is (did she really get into Ivy League schools?) but overall the message is loud and clear--Ke$ha is not afraid to be herself, and despite having people who think she's dumb or stupid, she is out to rule the world (or at least the airwaves).

I was very let down by this book. I'm not a Ke$ha fanatic but I was curious about her and really thought this book would give me an in-depth look at her but it only scratched the surface. I was really hoping she'd elaborate on how she was the worst waitress in L.A. but she didn't :( really wanted a story. This is an overview of her & it gives a general understanding of her but if you're looking for something with substance this isn't the book for you.
