Editorial Reviews

"It's a savvy move to compare dads and superheroes... Long knows how to poke just enough fun at Dad without crossing the line into buffoonery; despite his foibles, the boy's father clearly does one thing very well: "My dad does spend a lot of time with me." At the end of the day...the little boy knows exactly who his real hero is." - Booklist (Booklist 2011-03-15)

"Dads are often elevated to superhero status in the eyes of their kids, but Long turns this concept on its ear with hilarious results. Choosing a cartoon style and humor equally reminiscent of both Mo Willems and Garfield of comic-strip fame...this title aims at the funny bone. ...after the son comes to the end of his amusing list of what dad is unable to do, readers can laugh equally hard at dad's attempts to be the best father possible. Parents will chuckle with empathy at dad's comedic, stretched-thin patience as he spends quality time with his son. All ends well with a big hug and no doubt that this dad is "really super.../ and definitely" a "hero."" - Kirkus (Kirkus 2011-04-01)

"Powered by a Roy Lichtenstein meets Sunday funnies aesthetic and a self-effacing sense of humor, Long's story is sincere without being saccharine--which dads will appreciate. Ages 4–8. (Apr.)" - Publishers Weekly (Publishers Weekly 2011-04-04)

I got this book for my husband for Father's Day thinking it would be a cute story about how a little boy looks up to his dad. This is not what I was expecting! I couldn't give it to him. The book is about how his dad is a clutz and can hardly do anything right. The little boy still loves him in spite of these things because after all he is his dad. I loved the super hero style of the book's pictures and it's definitely a sturdy well printed book. The story was just not what I though it was going to be...

This book is super cute and tells about all the things super heros can do but his Dad can't and that it doesn't matter because he still loves his dad just for being his dad and the fact that he spends time with him doing fun things. I would highly recommend this book! It's cute and funny.

I got to review this cute book just in time for Father's Day. I really enjoyed reading this book to my kids. My fiancée, is not their real father, however, he is all that they have ever known. He is an amazing father, and my children adore him. They love spending time with him any chance they have, they wait for him to come home from work everyday, and enjoy just "dad time". Before I had met him, it was just me, and yeah, I tried my hardest to be dad too, going fishing, playing ball, riding the four wheelers, etc... However, it is not the same as having "dad".

This book is written in a very clever way, in the respect that it makes fun of dad while immortalizing him as the same time. A couple parts of the book I really enjoyed, the first is when the boy says " He cannot leap tall buildings in a single bound." The picture shows dad tripping over blocks the boy was stacking up to make a building. And then he says "He does not have super strength." The picture shows dad trying to open a pickle jar, and can't get it. The next page shows mom opening the jar for dad. This is just a very humorous book for dad.

I would definitely recommend this book for reading to the kiddos! My kids loved it and found it to be very funny. There are a lot of cute little comparisons between expressions and pictures. The illustrations are very nicely done, with bright colors and speech bubbles through out the pages to add to the humor.
