Review

Children interested in surfing will be raring to go after reading "My Daddy Taught Me to Surf", which was written by two local Charleston surfers who have been friends, fathers and surfers for years.
--Lowcountry Parent Magazine

Expect to learn basic surfing terminology, surf traditions and even how to paddle out when you take the board for the first time.

--Charleston Outdoors Magazine By Evans Craddock

Parents will enjoy the story as much as their children, as it serves as a reminder of the many reasons we all love the sand and surf.

--Surfpulse / Reviewed by Courtney McCaffrey

I was pleased to see a book like this that is not only a true story in a lot of our lives, it also educates at the same time. --Locals Only Magazine

If you want your kid to grow up to be awesome, it's a good place to start! --Huck Magazine

From the Author

From the moment he learned he was going to be a father, he knew that the joys and life lessons that he experienced with surfing were one day going to be passed onto his child. This desire along with a complete inability to draw allowed him to work with his closest friend, Shane Lasby to bring together a small testament of this love for surfing and their children into a book that they both believe will help foster these lessons for any parent and child. Joseph lives and surfs in Charleston, SC with his wife Allison and son Jonah. --This text refers to the Kindle Edition edition.

About the Author: Joseph has been a father for 6.5 years and a surfer for 30.

About the Illustrator: Shane has always been an artist of some fashion for as long as he can remember. This has always been a dream of his to share the images that his heart can set forth from his head to his hands. Growing up and surfing in Cocoa Beach, Florida has taught me exactly what Joseph and I have accomplished in this children's book. Having two little girls of my own has also shown me the true value of what this life offers through patience and perseverance, but all the while keeping me very young at heart. The boy in My Daddy Taught Me to Surf is the child in all of us, still living and learning every day.

I was quite suprised just how touching this children's book is - as well as informative.

As you can see from the title, it is told from the viewpoint of the boy who admires his surfing dad and longs to share the experience. The boy finally gets to the age where his dad will teach him to surf. The boy drinks in the knowlege of the board, types of waves, and surfing etiquette, all while learning that surfing our oceans is a gift that needs to be returned by keeping the beaches clean for everyone.

Loved the story, the information, and I think this is a wonderful childrens book.

This is a wonderful book that all 3 of my kids love to read. We live in the Northeast..we do not surf..but the topic is fascinating and my kids love learning about something new. It has a great message about going out of your comfort zone, learning something new, and the process of reaching that goal. It also has a beautiful message about giving back to the earth and preserving our beaches. Love this book...can't wait for more from the author.

We just got our copy of My Daddy Taught Me To Surf a few weeks ago to read to our twins, and it has quickly turned into our favorite. It is so much more then just a cool story, and we are looking forward to sharing the valuable lessons with our sons as they grow. The book is easy to read and the drawings are great. We highly recommend it and hope your family loves it as much as ours.
