Biography

One year in a dog’s life equals seven for a human. Dog years are a lot like touring musician years: Being on the road and learning from more seasoned bands, playing music every night, traveling together every day, a lot of growth happens at super-human speed. “For a fulltime musician, a year is a long time; one album is a huge difference. We love that album [Desolation of Eden, ... Read more in Amazon's Chelsea Grin Store

I would tell you that, "if you like death-core at all, then get this" but that would be false. Chelsea Grin have changed their sound just enough to make real death metal enthusiasts take some notice. The change is minor, but telling. The band has slowed the pace of their heavily hardcore influenced death metal to a near crawl at times, bleeding the listener dry and making them hang on every empty space, every cymbal crash, and every sustained shriek. The sense of anticipation builds through the album as you wait for something to come and most times are rewarded in spades. Some material fails to deliver the ultimate beatdown that is hinted at by the build up but every track is saved by the bellowing/shrieking greatness of the vocals. This is what a tortured scream should sound like! It's not over layered or auto tweaked for maximum heaviness, just delivered with a passion and vigor that 95% of bands out there can't pull off. The Suicide Silence comparisons are now a thing of the past as this band have found their own niche and it is BRUTAL. You still have to like death-core to like this completely but Chelsea Grin have separated themselves from sounding too much like the rest of the pack. This is much more grim than most death-core has the balls to be.

I love this album, it has great songs, chelsea grin is amazing!
Although, the shipping for this was a bit slow, things ordered from this site almost 2 weeks after this was ordered arrived before it but I can't really complain since it still arrived before the date given in the shipping details.
Songs like Oblivion and The Foolish One are great, and it came with a bonus fre CD with a group of different artists.

There are a ton of descriptors that could be used in detailing the "deathcore" genre, but the phrase "sparsely populated" is not one of them. Hence, it is understandably difficult for many a group to stand out from the rest of the pack, the hordes of imitators that have cropped up in the latter part of the last decade. Fortunately, Chelsea Grin ARE an exception to this rule -- and not just because they reportedly snagged Whitechapel's Phil Bozemen to have a cameo on one track, and the world-renowned "Zeuss" to produce their second full-length effort, 2011's "My Damnation." (However, these two things are added attributes that should help to turn a few heads in the genre.)

Chelsea Grin actually stand out the most for being an exceedingly-talented troop of young go-getters. Their bass helps to add punch to the bottom end, but their triple-headed guitar work is even more excellent, as is their drumming, which is (of course) very good, too. The vocals, meanwhile, find frontman Alex Koehler splitting his time pretty much right down the middle between The Black Dahlia Murder's Trevor Strnad and Deicide's Glenn Benton. Needless to say, C.G. are not just exceptionally-skilled musicians, but the music that they produce is also abnormally brutal. (Many a band of this style will opt to throw in some keyboards or clean vocals to the mix, but not this one -- they attack quite ferociously, and utilize melody only as an afterthought.)

Tracks like the opening "The Foolish One," "Oblivion," and "All Hail The Fallen King" are all pounding, breakdown-happy attacks driven by raging, Strnad-lite vocals, propulsive double time drumming, and a few nicely melodic, Black Dahlia-style solos.

Chelsea Grin really haven't evolved, like you think they would have on their second album My Damnation. The vocals have evolved, but to me the music really hasn't. Well Alex is 20, and the other band members are around that age. Chelsea Grin sure is deathcore, and nothing in between. This album has breakdowns you all know, and love. I like this album, but I like Desolation of Eden more. Chelsea Grin needs to make a big difference on their next album, or else it's going to get boring. Maybe they should try, and do what Suicide Silence has done evolve, and make deathcore stand out.

You know when you get a request for cancellation? You know when it happens before the item even ships? Yeah, you should really not ignore those. I found something else I wanted more, and the seller of this item kept ignoring my requests to cancel. I tried cancelling multiple times, before and after the item was shipped. It's a great CD, fans of Chelsea Grin will love it. But make sure you REALLY want it before placing your order.
