Book Description

March 5, 2007
In My Decision to Live, Nader Elguindi recalls the new direction his life took after suffering a horrific accident that severed both legs and caused him to permanently lose his right foot. At the time of the accident, he had been serving as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy.

After many surgeries and a great deal of rehabilitation, Nader continues his career in the U.S. Navy, eventually becoming the first naval officer to earn the coveted Dolphins with a prosthetic leg. Following several appeals with the Navy's Physical Evaluation Board, Nader learns that his wish to remain as an active duty officer in the U.S. Navy has failed.

Discouraged from the failure but not deterred in life, Nader stumbles into a business opportunity and starts his own information technology company. Nader s story comes full circle ten years after his tragic accident when he wins one of the largest small business contracts from the Office of Naval Research (ONR), a distinguished branch of the U.S. Navy.

5.0 out of 5 stars An inspiring book, March 12, 2007
By

This review is from: My Decision to Live (Paperback)
Why do some people overcome major adversity, while others are derailed by comparatively minor problems? This intriguing book by Nader Elguindi offers several personal answers.

Faced with a wide variety of stumbling blocks -- the acrimonious divorce of his parents, the kind of local prejudice particularly wounding to a child, the repercussions of a teen-age bad decision, the red tape that delays and finally prohibits his dream career, a volatile business climate -- Nader reveals the honesty, optimism, faith, and cheerfulness which see him through the book's defining moment: the motorcycle accident which results in the amputation of his leg.

His hard-won victory is a must read for all of us who live with the realization that we "never know what will happen" and that we must always be preparing for yet unknown difficulties, while our ability to overcome them must spring in part from our enjoyment of the present.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thoughtful examination of goal-setting and achievement, April 11, 2007
By

This review is from: My Decision to Live (Paperback)
"My Decision to Live" is an absorbing and insightful personal account of how through goal-based work, one can accomplish great things and overcome substantial obstacles.

The heart of Nader's story concerns the roadblocks placed in his way and the work he's done to accomplish his goals. What struck me most, however, is the importance of simply having goals in the first place, and the added strength which comes from having direction.

I enjoyed and learned from Nader's book, and look forward to his future writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Testimony of Triumph, April 6, 2007
This review is from: My Decision to Live (Paperback)
Elguindi's book is a testimony of what can be accomplished when one puts their mind to overcoming even the most overwhelming obstacles. He uses his personal story of losing his leg in a motorcycle accident when he was in the Navy to show how making a conscious decision to live (and not just be alive) helped him overcome physical and psychological challenges to achieve remarkable goals. This book is truly inspiring and a must read!
