4.0 out of 5 stars Not really a game, more like a useful tool
Ever since the DS came out, I've thought it could use PDA functionality; it's small enough to carry around in your pocket, it has a touch screen, it has WiFi. But until now, the only option has been homebrew apps, which can be clunky and hard to install.

Not a great DS program. Save the cash, get a bunch of apps for the user. Seriously. It is fun to tinker around with games, but not for daily use. I'd buy else where.

Ever since the DS came out, I've thought it could use PDA functionality; it's small enough to carry around in your pocket, it has a touch screen, it has WiFi. But until now, the only option has been homebrew apps, which can be clunky and hard to install.

Tomy finally got the hint and made My DoItAll, which comes very close to being a good all-purpose PDA. For an adult, it's probably a bit too whimsical, and it lacks e-mail or a web browser. It does, however, have some features that would make it highly useful for a student.

When you first start up the cartridge, you have to create an avatar and enter some information about yourself. You also are prompted to create a password and security questions. You'll be prompted for your password every time you start from then on. After logging in, you'll be presented with a rotating menu of applets.

Here's a quick rundown of My DoItAll's functions:

"Friend Card" is an address book. Entries can be transferred to other My DoItAll users through the DS's wireless. You can specify entries as private so they can't be sent to others.

"Calendar" as the ability to create a schedule and appointments, plus it also has a journal that is automatically timestamped when you create an entry.

"Notepad" allows you to write up to 10 short notes.

"Calculator" at first looks like a fairly basic calculator, but when you press a button, you're presented with options to do length, weight, volume, temperature and currency conversions as well as common mathematical and scientific formulas, constants and equations, everything from quadratic equations to volume of a sphere to Avagadro's number.

"World Map" presents you at first with a basic world map that allows you to see the local time in various cities around the world. You can then zoom in to view individual countries (or in the case of the US, individual states). It also provides basic information such as the flag, capitol, area, population and currency.

"Periodic Table" allows you to view the traditional table or you can look up elements alphabetically. It provides information such as atomic number, mass, group, phase, melting and boiling points.

"Sound Effects" is basically a noisemaker. There are some 40 different sounds including weapons, animals, vehicles and TV audience sounds.

"Rhythm Machine" can be used as a basic metronome, but it can also create some rather complicated drum rhythms. It even has a function somewhat similar to a Korg Kaosilator.

"Voice Changer" is a silly applet that lets you record a few seconds of audio then raise or lower the pitch, add an echo, or play it backwards. It's actually fairly limited, and there doesn't appear to be any way to save a sound clip.

"Dice" lets you roll up to 6 dice, with 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 or 20 sides. Very handy for D&D or other roleplaying games.

"Spinner" lets you enter 2 to 8 names, then spin a wheel to pick one at random. Use as a chore wheel, a spinner for board games, or to play Spin the Bottle. (It actually has a bottle as one of the spinner options)

"Vote" lets you enter a question and several answers. You can then pass the DS around to let other people vote on it, or you can submit the question to other My DoItAll users over wireless.

"Boxes of Doom", "Ninety Eight" and "Crazy Eights" are games which can be played single player, multi-cartridge multiplayer or DS Download multiplayer.

There's also a place to enter codes, but I haven't found any codes yet and I'm not sure what they'd unlock, other than avatar designs.

Not much to this one. It is sad that many of these DS games have little review unless you search for what people post online. This one was OK but It is not one my girls even play much with now. It really again is very limited and probably not something I would have gotten if I had known.
