Book Description

Security consultant Ben McCall is alone. His wife and unborn child are dead, victims of an assassination attempt meant for someone else. He blames himself. Grieving, he disappears, dead to almost everyone and everything from his past. When his best friend is in danger Ben resurfaces, only to find his friend isn’t the target of a murderer, he is.

Grace Adams is one of the walking wounded. A pain specialist who treats cancer patients, she's lost her new husband to leukemia. One night she finds herself incapacitated by a severe headache. From out of nowhere a man comes to her aid. He's the man she fell in love with years before, Ben McCall. As the passion between them reignites, Grace too becomes a target of the madman who stalks Ben.

Now it's not just their rekindled love at stake, it's their very lives.

From the Author

This story, My Everything, was inspired by a dream. Two people, Ben and Grace, who met when they were young, separated, and went on to find love again and live their lives. When tragedy strikes and things fall apart, they are reunited and must work together to stay alive. I love their story.

5.0 out of 5 stars loved this book August 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A great story of first love revisited, with suspense.

Ben McCall is a "security specialist" that has dropped out of his life, after his wife and unborn child's death in a tragedy for which he feels responsible. He is called back mysteriously by his partner, and finds he is the target of a murderer.

He runs into his first love, Grace, who has lost her husband.

They are drawn together and find that the passion they once felt is still there, while both become targets of this madman.

The love story is great - I really like Julia Barrett's style, and so far have enjoyed her novels.

The suspense is well done too.
All in all, an enjoyable read.

I really like this story, original and fast paced. The characters were well developed and believable. Ben and Grace meet on a topless beach and spend 30 days together. Ten years later fate throws them together again and this time it's not without consequences. After almost losing her again, fate steps in and Ben has to own up to the mistakes he's made. He is determined not to let Grace get away for anything.

4.0 out of 5 stars Steamy romantic suspense January 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love this book! I loved Ben & Grace! They were great, well-developed characters. They had wonderful chemistry throughout the story. The suspense wasn't" never heard of" or a shocking storyline but I think it was perfect for these characters & the book. This was a definite score for a free book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant read but nothing unusual about the story. November 27, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was enjoyable to read. The characters were likable, with the exception of the villain of course. Actually I was surprised that I felt sorry for him. I will not say why because that would be a spoiler which for this review I am trying to avoid giving. The book had a HEA ending which I prefer for my romance books to have. I further liked that there was no cheating in the book. Also both main characters had been married before and the marriages were good ones. Sometimes when the H or h have been in serious relationships before or married before the OM or OW were majorly flawed in someway. However at the same time the H and h in this book wanted and loved each other more than they did the prior spouse, which I also liked. So why did I not give the book a 5 star review? For one, the book dragged in a few places. This was not the type of book I could not bear to put down. Rather it took me several days to read. Also while it was a pleasant read, it was nothing special, nothing unique about it. I would be surprised if I remembered what the book was a about six months from now.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice story October 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a nice story, although quite predictable at times, but the writing wasn't strong and there was way too much narrative in it, leaving the characters underdeveloped and forcing the reader to accept the author's version rather than being immersed in a world of imagination and mystery. No room left for emotion. The scene at the hospital, for instance, when Grace could have died as a result of her wounds, was entirely lifeless, when it should have brimmed with emotional intensity. Then again, such was the case all throughout the book, due to the incessantly dull narrative.
I wasn't really impressed, and I found that the ending was cheesy.

More About the Author

Julia Barrett was born into an landed family in Northumbria in 1689. She was raised by a governess in the typical fashion of the time until, when Miss Barrett was aged 13, her mother died in a unfortunate sausage-cart accident, after which her father, driven mad by grief, began to raise her as a son, cutting her long tresses, dressing her in trousers, and enrolling her in school.

She quickly showed an affinity for writing which was encouraged by the headmaster who saw in her a return to the classical English style that was, at the time, being overwhelmed by the popular realism style growing in the Continent. With the headmaster's help, Barrett was able to publish some short essays and dramas, but to little acclaim.

It was while attending university that Barrett, bound for a career as a male English instructor, discovered a new pride in womanhood brought about by a chance meeting with Henry Carey, a talented satirist five years her junior.

Though their relationship was brief, it provided Barrett with a great sense of confidence, both in her gender and her talent. She never returned to her earlier masquerade of masculinity.

Barrett's writing took on a new focus, writing romance from the point-of-view of her heroines. This new style was both highly controversial and highly popular, and would go on to make her a household name even to this day.

Julia Barrett died in 1766. Originally it was believed she died of syphilis, but further research has debunked this theory. This was likely a rumor spread by her detractors. Recent studies point to a congenital heart defect.

She was survived by fourteen children, all adopted from Africa.
