My Familiar Stranger was a wonderfully engrossing paranormal romance with just a dash of science fiction that grabbed me from page one and didn't let go!
Ms. Danann absolutely knows how to get a series going. My Familiar Stranger created a captivating new world with so many possibilities. With elves, beserkers, fairies, vampires and who knows what else running around a society parallel to our own there is so much potential! The world building was awesome. Through Danonn's vivid descriptions I felt like I could actually see the Order's lavish headquarters and the creepy but whimsical Romanian strong-hold.

I don't want to give to much away, but watching the relationships build between Elora and the B-Team was magical. This is no "wham-bam, I'm instantly in love with you" book. The relationships progress over time which makes it that much more heartbreaking when you realize that Elora will have to choose between honoring a debt, true love, or true lust. But fear not, Elora gets her happily ever after just like in her favorite fairy..um....er....I mean elf tales ;)

My Familiar Stranger quickly turned into the kind of book that left my husband and son eating pizza for dinner. Who has time to cook when you could be reading a great book instead?

This book is not the usual paranormal story that I am used to reading. It is way better. It is a very well written book that takes the reader on a journey to a new dimension.

Twenty-three year old Elora Laiken has just witnessed the massacre of her entire family, and she is next. In a desperate attempt to save her life, her friend and tutor, Thelonius Monq, opens a portal and forces her into it. Her journey is hell, and when she lands in the center of the Order of the Black Swan she is near death and unrecognizable as a human being. The Order is a group of highly trained soldiers who protect the innocent and search for and destroy vampires.

After weeks of treatment, Elora is finally told where she is. She has been transported to another dimension parallel to her own. Things are both different and alike, it is especially evident how many alike things are when she meets Catalonius C. Monq, her tutor's duplicate.

The Black Swan Order welcomes her and she is surrounded by tall, good looking men. These men are all mortals but some are elves and some are berserkers. Kay is a berserker who has learned to keep his violent behavior under control, Rammel Hawking is an elf and Engel Storm is a human. Storm is responsible for saving her life when everyone else feared her arrival could have been a form of invasion. She has become a part of Storm, Hawking and Kay's group, and other than Kay who is engaged, the other two are determined to win her heart. Especially Ram who knows that she is his life mate, the only woman chosen for him and him alone.

This is not a story where the girl is immediately in love and falls into bed with the man of her dreams. She cares for these men, feels attracted to them, but doesn't allow herself to become involved with them other than friendship. But then she finds herself being sought after by a 600 year old vampire, Istvan Baka. For some reason, her differences have made her desired. If she is indeed, Ram's life partner will she realize it and choose him? Will she go to Storm since she feels obligated to him for saving her life? What hope could there be for her and the vampire?

In Elora's dimension she is royalty. Is it possible that her life could be in danger in this dimension as well? Is it possible for her to ever find out who was responsible for the deaths of her whole family? She will never go through the portal again and face possible death.

This was such an interesting book chock full of larger than life characters. The author takes you on a journey where a woman slowly learns who she loves. You find yourself rooting for the man you wish she chooses. She will eventually have to choose between love, lust and honor. Is there happiness in store for Elora? After the horrors she has been through is there a happily ever after in her future? There are many surprises and in this reviewer's opinion this book had it all. I look forward to the next book in this series, there are so many characters I would like to learn more about.

I was not familiar with the author but I loved loved every word in this saga. I can't wait for the next
book. I read it in one sitting and couldn't put it down till I finished it.
