5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for or anyone considering dual-professional ministry!, August 29, 2011
By
This review is from: My Father's Business - Guidelines for Ministry in the Marketplace (Paperback)
I met Peter Tsukahira in Jerusalem a few years ago and he talked about this book to a group of students I was in. I was a theology major in undergrad, but I was also a psychology major making me different from many of my counterparts who wanted to do ministry full time. I didn't quite know what my ministry would look like or if I just had unrealistic goals that would inevitably stretch me too thinly. Tsukahira shows in this book that it is possible to be actively engaged in the ministry while still having a career in other field. He makes the point that you must do what God has called you to do, and if that is to be a dual-professional while in vocational ministry, then that is what you must do. God will equip the people he calls in whatever they are called in. Tsukahira makes many points about how having another profession while being in the ministry opened many opportunities for him in ministry that he otherwise would not have. It was an inspiration to me to continue pursuing theology and psychology in graduate school so that I'm better equipped for the calling God has on my life. I highly recommend this book to people who feel a draw to ministry and to other professions as well. Tsukahira makes a good point that as a human being, you can't do it all--you just have to do your best in what God has entrusted you to do. This book is highly recommended for people trying to sift through their calling(s).
