Book Description

On the tail end of a torturous 34-hour drive from Malawi to South Africa on a cramped, grungy bus, 22-year-old Kyle and a roaming group of other young Christians are just beginning their sixth month of The World Race.

Just a year before, Kyle had lacked the boldness in faith to even bring Jesus into a conversation. Eleven months of various international mission work would have been a ridiculous waste of his youth and pleasures. But that was before his father died from cancer, leaving him to examine how his life matched his beliefs.

While providing fatherly care for a group of orphaned babies and toddlers in Johannesburg, Kyle shares what God has taught him on his journey thus far. His experiences throughout the month serve as natural platforms to jump back to the year before... back to when he was helping his father cross items off his bucket list and before the urgency to finally acknowledge his faith had taken root. The two heartrending stories of past and present blend together, inviting readers to pursue their own adventures with God as they witness Kyle learning to follow his Father's Son.

5.0 out of 5 stars Changes the way you look at the world February 25, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This story is a powerful message of God working through people’s lives. I love how open it is, I like how I can easily relate to this book and how it holds nothing back. At times when the author is writing about the conversations he is having with God I feel as though I've had those conversations as well. If you have questions about what Christians are, who God is, or just want to change the way you look at life read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing job, Kyle! December 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I was excited to read this book. As one of Richard Johnson's "work family", I observed much of this book up close. I had to stop reading many times to cry a little. The depth and soul of Kyle's recounting of his dad's death and his mission journey was amazingly touching and inspiring. I know his father would be so proud of him. Richard handled the last months of his life with such faith, dignity, and acceptance. He showed us all how it should be done. I guess in Kyle that apple did not fall far from the tree! This book changes hands among the "work family" every few days. Good job, Kyle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching story of Father, Faith, and Family October 31, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I just finished the book this weekend cover to cover, and I must say this is awesome. Kyle did a wonderful job with this book interleaving the World Race year in mission with the story of his dad's sickness and passing. It is a great testament to a young person's discovery of his foundation of faith, love of his father, and support of a family during very trying times. I highly recommend this book, and it will tug on your emotions, all of them.

This is a compelling story about a young man's journey of faith, and the changing relationship with the father that inspired it. He makes the story interesting and easy to follow. Lot's of humor, as well as touching parts.

If you enjoy reading stories of real people dealing with real life, in particular where God makes good from a bad situation, then you will love reading this book as much as I did.
Kyle does a great job of being authentic and even prefaces his story with the admission that the story contains the details as he remembers them; which may or may not differ from someone else's recounting.
The book is an easy read and it's hard to put it down, once you start!

Kyle did a wonderful job putting his story into words. His father would be so proud of his accomplishments. The emotion and honesty in the story were moving, leaving one wanting to keep reading to learn how Kyle interpreted and learned from his experiences. Great Job!
