Book Description

November 1, 2004
Not too long ago, I was at dinner with my husband and some of his business associates. Somehow the subject of "Hollywood children" came up and I confessed that although I was raised in Canada, I was, indeed, the daughter of a "star."

"Who?" They wanted to know.

"Lorne Greene," I said, really not expecting them to remember who he was.

"Wait a minute," one of them said, "I thought he was my father."

I am always amazed at the response I get from people about my father. To me he was a very private man with a public persona who happened to be extremely recognizable. To the public, however, he was larger than life, a hero, yet someone with whom everyone felt a certain warm intimacy. Today, some forty years after Bonanza first aired, he is just as recognizable as ever, to all the families who welcomed him into their homes every Sunday night for fourteen years and to all of those who still see him in syndication around the globe.

I recently finished reading 'My Father's voice', the biography of Lorne Greene written by his daughter Linda Greene Bennett. If you are a Lorne Greene fan this book is an absolute MUST for you. I thought I knew quite a lot about this man but discovered I hadn't even scratched the surface! I just wish I had had the opportunity to meet him. Linda obviously loved her father dearly and this comes across in the book. I laughed and I cried but loved it totally.
Even if you are not a particular fan of Mr. Greene it is still worth reading about this hard-working, intelligent, humorous, wonderful person, and WHAT a life he had!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Warm & Funny and Very Human., July 28, 2007

This review is from: My Father's Voice: The Biography of Lorne Greene (Paperback)
I very much enjoyed reading this book. It reminds me how "Stars" are seen by the public, when in fact they are still just human after all. Mr. Greene was quite a man, very ambitious, talented, funny and warm. I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys the work of this man, as I do.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Tribute to a Magnificent Man, February 21, 2009

Linda Greene Bennett has written a most loving, absolutely fascinating and truly insightful book about her very famous father. Her style is excellent and this is one of those "can't put down" books.

Lorne was "The Great Voice of Canada" and "Ben Cartwright" of Bonanza fame. This book will tell you so much about his life before he became a radio announcer, so much about his life after Bonanza and everything else in between. The many rare photos are an excellent inclusion which enhance the book, especially as they are very appropriately selected.

Lorne has always been one of my very favourite actors and by the end of this book I felt that I "knew" him even better and liked him even more.

One of the finest biographies I have ever read.
