Book Description

June 27, 2008
My Favorite American is the biography of Pennsylvania s Valen Cover, a remarkable young woman who fought back from the brink of death more than once to become a beacon of hope to all who know her.

Valen, who is now twenty-five years old and living a normal life, has been through a life-and-death struggle with serious illnesses such as pancreatitis, scoliosis, seizures, and polycystic kidney disease PKD diagnosed at the age of ten. There were times when she spent more time in the hospital than at home.

Her parents, too, suffered as they watched their little girl endure pain and discomfort that they could do nothing about. Valen underwent multiple surgeries and medical procedures to address one problem after another. Finally, today, she is a woman of incredible inner strength and courage.

From her battle in the womb to a serious motorcycle accident in 2007, Valen Cover is a woman of incredible inner strength and courage. One acquaintance commented: "You will not leave her presence without knowing her gift."

Hope & Faith July 26, 2008
What an inspirational book! The author did a fabulous job capturing this family as they went through so much pain & turmoil. One has only to see the spirit of this courageous girl, who never gave up. She has emerged as a beautiful person, who continues to give hope to all who know her. Our family is riddled with PKD & it is Valen who gives us hope for that cure!!

This true story can help to inspire and uplift anyone! It toches so many facits of the human condition that I cannot fathom anyone who would not be moved by it's messages. From the family's struggle with the choice of bringing a child with an incurable disease (PKD)into the world to her resolve and tireless efforts to find a cure this book is a showcase for the strength of positive attitude. The story is told with humor and sensitivity in a way that does not let you put it down! From the prolouge to the final puncuation this story will not dissapoint!

Should Be a Movie!! August 3, 2008
If you have doubts about pro life, responsible parenthood, organ transplantation, fighting the demons of diseases, such as "Polycystic Kidney Disease" (PKD) or signing your organ donor card; read "My Favorite American" and take a walk in the shoes of five true heroes: Pam, Bill, Valen, Sally and Dr Robert Montgomery! And Dennis McCloskey, thanks for putting power in the written word!
