From Publishers Weekly

Still recovering from the discovery two years before that her husband of 26 years is gay (a revelation referred to as "The Treachery"), 54-year-old gynecologic oncologist Dr. Gwyneth Berke is resigned to a life of scientific pursuits, sulking in her luxury downtown Baltimore apartment and helping to care for her ailing father. Enter her best friends, widowed artist Kat and voluptuous entrepreneur Fleur, who coax Gwyn into dating again, a venture made easy by her looks, money and accomplishments. Though the men she meets at first are flakes, sexy lightning strikes at a medical conference when Gwyn meets Simon York, a renowned British gynecologist and researcher who doggedly woos a receptive Gwyn into the kind of torrid relationship that only two gynecologists can have. But Gwyn can't help wondering if Simon really is who he seems. He's too good—and too busy—to be true. More than light fare for the menopausal set, Devens's wise and witty debut is a distinguished addition to a crowded field. (Sept.)

From Booklist

Gwyneth Berke is about as fulfilled as a woman can get. She's a prominent doctor with a Baltimore ob-gyn practice, specializing in gynecologic oncology. She has a beautiful apartment, money, and two wonderful grown sons. Like most of us, she also has a few crosses to bear. Her ex-husband left her for another man, her father has Alzheimer's, and now in her midfifties, finding a good man is like finding a needle in a haystack. It's not as though Gwyneth is actively looking, but her two best friends, also single, are anxious for her to join them in the dating pool. We get to go along for the ride as Gwyneth and her friends make their way through the slim pickings of available men. While this seems to be the main theme of the book, Devens' novel is really about women successful in life, in friends, and in their chosen profession, realizing what's really important as they reach middle age. Wonderful characters make this humorous and heartwarming tale a pleasure to read. Maria Hatton

This book is a hoot. Particularly if you are a woman who is 54 or if you have been 54 or if you ever plan on being 54, you will find this read funny, charming, and invigorating. Unfortunately, I cannot send it to my mother because Dr. Gwyn and her friends have mouths on them that she wouldn't approve of. Which is precisely the point. These characters are characters: they are outspoken, hilarious, and irreverent. I was happy to pile in for the ride.

Hurray for female characters in their fifties who don't come off like over-the-hill harpies. These women are bright, brave and funny. The book is about Gwyenth Berke a gynecologist and her two friends, Fleur and Kat as they discover life isn't over at menopause, it's just beginning. I really loved it. It made me laugh out loud! But I was also touched by Gwyneth's relationship with her dad and I cheered for the women as they came to Gwyn's rescue in a hysterical scene. I was sorry to see the story end. Let's hope there's a sequel in the works.

What a delightful and definitely a different kind of story than I usually read but worth the purchase. It was such a real-life, fun story about middle-aged Gwyneth and her friends, family, and relationships. Accomplished in her life from career to finances to adoring relationships with family and long-time friends, Gwyn has just about everything going for her until she meets a renowned British gynecologist, Simon York, at a medical conference. This begins one sizzling, hot relationship that will have you breathless.

As Gwyn's association with Simon progresses, she begins to question this sporadic relationship and asks herself who this so-good-to-be-true man really is. But as the plot thickens, the relationship begins to unravel; she begins to unstitch his character piece-by-piece. In coming to the climax of the story, we will find out the true Simon. He turns out to be the antagonist in this plot. You have to read further to see what conniving, unruly occurrences transpire with Dr. York's character (no spoilers here). It really is a great turn in the story that will have you totally thrown for a loop. But you will be pleased at the conclusion when Gwyen's friends come to her aid and help bring down the egotistical, renowned Dr. Simon York.

The ending is brilliant, and will have you cheering. When I grow up, I want a midlife crisis as fun as this journey was! Truly a well-written, enjoyable, warm and fun read! The storyline and characters were exceptional! Kudos to the author Toby Devens for her debut novel... such a pleasurable read! Highly recommend!

Toby, I loved your book. We are in Maui this month on winter vacation and your book is my best beach read yet. I was married for 24 years and then my marriage ended. I so related to your characters as I dipped my toes into dating "at a certain age". I ended up spending waaay too long with my own version of Simon York. He claimed we were in an exclusive relationship but I found him on several dating sites, seeing a "lady" from Atlanta, emailing one from Ireland and then luncheon with his barber. Needless to say, I wrote a book which became a #1 bestseller about my dating experiences. Check it out: Secrets of the Marriage Mouse - Find Your Forever Love in 4 Proven Steps. You won't believe all the similarities. My Simon lost his long term marriage when his wife left him for a lesbian relationship. Similarities in every chapter...Love it!

Toby, your writing is well researched, witty, and a wonderful mental diversion. I'm so excited to check out your author page and see if you have written another.

I haven't enjoyed a women's novel so much for many years! The ladies in this book are all 54 and the three of them are great friends. Gwen, a gynaecologist specialising in oncology,Fleur - a lady of somewhat splendid proportions who has a plus-sized dress shop and Kat a fabric artist are sisters of the heart. All single, they are in various stages of launching themselves into the dating scene once more.

Gwen, who is the speaker in this delightful book, is a widow, reluctant to enter the singles scene eventually meets the charming, sexy Simon, also a gynaecologist who is - seemingly - too busy to have a proper relationship with her. Fleur, who has lost the man with whom she has had a 14 year relationship, is torn when he keeps coming around to talk about his new wife. Kat, a widow, has to contend with an appalling daughter who is out to make sure that her mother doesn't find love again.

The thrust of this plot is to show that women who are older than the obligatory forties are still desirable and deserving of love and the author, Toby Devens, does this with skill and charm. The result is a terrific read and a set of characters in whom I was more than willing to invest concern.

Great story with "fifty something" women, facing different, difficult challenges.
This book contains good friends, funny dating stories, aging parents, divorce, death of a spouse, love and revenge.
It covers alot of ground, and does it well.
I enjoyed the book.

Toby Devens wrote this book, that I just could not put down. I was surprised the story of several single men's and women's middle age years did not all end as I was guessing they would. It was an excellent read. I know she has a new Novel "HAPPY ANY DAY" being released on August 6, 2013 which after reading "MY FAVORITE MIDLIFE CRISIS (YET) a must read !
