This bargain book is not for the serious Asian-food enthusiast. While I do not doubt that the recipes work and the results are tasty, they are heavily Americanized. For example, the hot-and-sour soup recipe does not contain seaweed, black fungus or golden thread. Its resemblance to traditional hot-and-sour soup is that it is hot (Chinese chili sauce) and sour. So-called Lo Mein turns out to be Japanese Ramen with some veggies and stuff added to it. The recipes seem to be oriental-style dishes made from readily-available American ingredients, as in button mushrooms instead of shiitake mushrooms. Recommended for those who like the flavors of Asia, but who really don't want to get involved with Asian cooking.
