An imaginitive twist to the emergency vehicle story,
By A Customer
This review is from: My Fire Engine (Hardcover)
A creative storyline and delightful, bold illustrations make this book a real attention-grabber. We now own a library full of fire engine books, and this is one of my 2-year-old's most beloved. The exciting details of a day in the life of a firefighter are told through the vibrant imagination of a young boy. A refreshing break from the anatomical-style vehicle books, yet just as exciting for my little guy.

covers all the 'essentials',

...The illustrations are clear, and the text is in short sentences -- loaded with information without getting 'too much'. We also like it because it's real people, not animals, in the illustrations (Vs. Fire Fighter Piggy Wiggy for example). The story follows a boy as part of a fire company on the mission of fighting a house fire from alarm sounding to putting things away until next time. Our 4-year-old sons love to 'read' this book to each other -- great on car trips!

What an awesome book for the young child who is interested in fire fighters. This book is full of great illustrations as well as great information about fire fighters. A wonderful addition to your home library.

So-so,

This is a boy's make believe, being a fire fighter. He's fairly detailed, describing how he puts out the fire, saves the family, and rescues the pet. I do find the use of "pet" instead of the more specific "pet snake" to be odd.
I do find the book to be a little banal, there are better firefighter books out there. However, if your kid is really into firetrucks or it's on sale, this will help round out your library.

Totally Inappropriate,

We didn't buy this book here, it was given to us, but I love Amazon reviews so I want to share - and since this is the first review I've ever written it should tell you how little we think of the book.
We read it to our 2-yr-old in the car tonight. My husband and I were appalled. Why a HOUSE fire where little ones are supposed to feel safe? Why POISON GAS where little ones have to worry about their own houses? Why did everyone get out safely but the family PET that all little ones love? Why is the family pet a dangerous RATTLESNAKE? We live in Florida - we teach our children to steer clear of snakes, not have them as pets. Like the bright colors and bold graphics, but the story is so terrible this book is going right into the trash. We couldn't even give it away in good conscience. |
