Gr. 4-6. The author of My First Activity Book (1990) makes an assortment of traditional holiday projects accessible to young crafters. Like others in the My First series, her oversize volume features excellent, eye-catching color photographs--of materials and tools as well as of the carefully sequenced directions. Wilkes doesn't include gifts, sticking mainly to Christmas trappings, such as greeting cards, tree and household decorations, and wrapping papers. She does, however, offer a few undertakings developed in the kitchen, among them a fetchingly decorated Christmas tree cake. We recieved this book, from the grandparents, and have had so much fun with it! The book is beautiful, inside, with all of the close-up shots of the step-by-step instructions of how to make Christmas cards, Christmas wrap, wreaths, cookies, ornaments for the tree (hand sewn and paper), and the fabulous Christmas tree cake that is pictured on the front cover. We have made home-made gifts for their school teachers, grandparents and decorations for the house. What a liberating feeling for a child to MAKE a gift instead of crowding into a crammed store with no ideas of what to buy. This book is your answer if you want a fun, colorful, beautifully illustrated book that instructs a child to use their hands to create during the Season

Our 7 year old daughter checked this book out from her school library and we loved it so much we had to buy it! It has 12 excellent Christmas crafts suitable for all ages. The step by step instructions coupled with the excellent pictures makes creating a master piece as easy as 1,2,3! Making the "Sweet Treats" was our families favorite activity. A must for any home library and for any Youth activities Leader too!
