My First Day at Nursery School

My 3 year-old loved this book. We read it to her just before starting preschool. She sat intently while I read the book to her. It acurately displays the conflicting feelings young children have when going to school. The excitement of playing with other children and doing new things and the fear of leaving mommy or daddy. It helped my daughter adjust to preschool. She still has me read it to her even though she has been in school for a few months.

My two-and-a-half year old just started preschool. I've looked at SO many books in this genre, and this one stands head-and-shoulders above the rest. What a lovely book!

This book is wonderfully written and illustrated. My two-year-old daughter wants to read it again and again. I definitely think it helps prepare children for nursery school. Each time we read the book, my daughter and I discuss the fact that she'll be attending nursery school soon, just like the girl in the book. I'm planning to purchase a book for a good friend, whose daughter is also about to start attending nursery school.

I just read this to my 2.5-year-old daughter for the first time and I was a little nervous at how the girl in the story cries for her Mommy, as I thought that maybe it would give my daughter a preconceived idea of how she was to feel on her first day of school; however, the story delightfully turns around to the point where the little girl simply doesn't want to leave school and is already looking forward to day #2! 'Hope the same goes for us! The color illustrations are captivating and very creative!

We read this book substituting the word "preschool" where nursery school was used for a few weeks before my daughter started school. It helped to give her an understanding of what to expect. She still wants us to read this to her every day. It is such an adorable story with wonderful illustrations of children at preschool doing the typical activities of art projects, dancing, playing, snack and lunch time. We highly recommend this book.

I ordered this book before my daughter attended preschool but it only arrived a couple of weeks after she started since we have been relocated to China. I am sure there were other books I was reading and the Berenstain bears going to school dvd definitely helped but amongst it all, I highly believe that this book eased my daughter's fears the most about school. She related really well to the character (I named the character in the book after her) and this is definitely one of the books we have to read before bedtime on school nights. It is simple, sweet and straight to the point and I so wish this author has more books in this series about school. :) Excellent!

I bought this to help my daughter transition to a new daycare, she really loves it, we need to read it every night.

Unfortunately I didn't receive this book until my daughter already started preschool...but she loves it anyway. The pictures are very colorful and we were able to talk about how much fun all of the activities they talk about in the book were when she was at school.

This was a good book to read to my 2 1/2 year old many times in the three weeks before starting preschool this fall. She was quite interested in the book, and I think it was very appropriate for our needs. I wanted to find a book that explained preschool from a small child's perspective. My only "issue" with it is I think it made my daughter think she was "supposed" to get upset when I left her at preschool (in the book, the girl wants her mommy while she is at school). When I was dropping her off, my daughter used the exact same terminology as in the book (but which isn't a phrase she has ever used verbatim before): "I want my mommy!" Obviously it's normal to be a little upset at first no matter what. But now it's week 3 of preschool and my daughter likes it - no more crying. It's a good book and I recommend it.

Other than the geographical variation (in our area it's virtually always called preschool, so we change the wording when we read it to her) this is a great book about starting preschool. We started reading it two weeks before my 2.5 yo daughter's first day, and she requested it again and again, asking all kinds of questions about preschool along the way. It was clear that the book gave her a way to work through her excitement and anxiety. Highly recommended .
