My granddaughter just turned ten. I bought her this book for her birthday. She had never sewn on a machine before. She read the book before coming to my house to learn to use the sewing machine. She knew all the parts of the machine and did a great job at her first lesson. We used the pattern for the Ipod holder for our first project. I highly recommend this book.

This is a great book for beginners. It is very informative and easy to read. My daughter is ten years old and just received her first sewing machine. This book explained all the basics of the machine and was filled with sewing steps in language that she could relate to. She practiced for two days with the paper exercises in this book. We simply made copies and she set there for hours learning how to control her foot pedal, raise and lower her presser foot and pivot properly. I would highly recommend it for any beginner.

I bought this book for my 8 yr old daughter, since I'm teaching her to sew. The book is very colorful with lots of drawings and cute photos. Some of the construction techniques (as in the tote bag) aren't really 'correct' (such as hemming the top edges of the bag BEFORE you sew the front/back together), but it does simplify the construction to be much easier for a child. And my daughter was thrilled with the results of her tote bag, even thought it really isn't finished properly.

One thing to note--all of the cutting measurements are in Centimeters, so we had to do some math before cutting. But it turned out to be a good metrics learning exercise for her!

I'm sure we'll be making more of the projects soon.

Ordered this book because my daughter is 6 and wants to learn to sew. We just bought her a sewing machine and since I am self taught, I wanted to get some insight as to how to properly teach her at such a young age. I love the book, it starts from the very basics and has practice sheets for locking stitches, pivoting, straight etc. The only downfall is that the instruction measurements for the projects are in centimeters and not inches, but she is from the UK. So if you don't mind converting, then it's not so bad. I just ordered her other book Fashion School and I'm anxious to get that as well.

I really like this little book for teaching hands how to pivot or make shapes or just learn an easy first time project. It's a little thin, which was disappointing. I was hoping there was more to it. However, there is plenty to get you or your child started. I don't know how to sew but this little book helped me a lot! I am now teaching my kids how to sew with our machine and its going well. The book has some patterns you can cut out too. You can make a simple skirt, a stuffed dog, or even an ipod pouch. It's a good book. I just wish there was more to it.

I purchaced this book for my grandaughter who received her first sewing machine for Christmas. For the price I expected a little more that what she already knew from going through the book included with the machine. I think the pages shown before ordering were deceiving.

This is a very solid introduction to sewing machines and sewing for elementary aged children (my daughter is age 7.) It introduces all the parts of the sewing machine and what they do, and how to thread a bobbin and needle. It then discusses different fabrics and terms. It has sewing practice guides, for learning to sew straight or curvy lines, etc. Then it includes several introductory sewing projects - a bag, a stuffed animal, an easy skirt, etc.

My daughter and I really enjoyed this book and have made almost all of the projects. However, we both wish there were more projects included! It is a pretty small little book, which makes it less intimidating, but just a couple of more beginning projects would have made it a 5-star intro for us.
