Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

"Like its predecessors Where's My Teddy? and It's the Bear!, this oversize book about Eddie and his teddy bear, Freddy, will endear itself to pint-size preschoolers," wrote PW. Ages 3-up.

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-K-A heartwarming tale about the beginning of a special friendship. As Eddie, a lonely boy, wanders through the woods clutching his teddy bear, Freddie, he sees a large teddy that belongs to a bear that lives nearby. When he hears the huge animal approaching, Eddie hides behind the stuffed toy and pretends that it can talk. The excited bear enthusiastically grabs his teddy in his arms and discovers Eddie. The frightened boy breaks the tension by beginning to chuckle and soon they are laughing together. A wonderful read-aloud, this story will delight children, who will chime in with the rhyming words. Alborough's gentle watercolors portray the characters' feelings through both body language and facial expressions. Youngsters will love the illustration of the huge bear clutching his teddy with his thumb stuck in his mouth. This third story about Eddie and Freddie is a must-have for teddy-bear cuddlers.

4.0 out of 5 stars The editor needed to take a closer look!, February 27, 2006
This review is from: My Friend Bear (Eddy & the Bear) (Paperback)
Jez Alborough writes three wonderful books about a little boy named Eddie and the friend he makes in a giant brown bear. My son loves these books. I would give this book 5 stars except that half way through the book Eddie's name changes to Eddy. The book's editor must have missed it before the book went to print. Anyway, for a book aimed at young readers, having a name change half way into the book can be quite confusing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your kids will love it!, June 18, 2000
My 3 year old loves the bear stories. In this story, the boy Eddie gets trapped behind the Bear's huge teddy bear. He pretends he is the huge teddy by speaking back to the real bear who is sad. The two become friends. My son laughs everytime we read this. It is a complement to the other bear book by the author, in which Eddie is left out in the woods with the Bear while his mother runs back home to fetch an item for their picnic. This is a wonderful read. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have!, March 15, 2000
This is a delightful, relational story. It's cleverly written, and beautifully illustrated, and one that became our favorite imediately! This is a book that I have shared with friends and often give as a present. I cannot say enough about this book (or author)!
