Hands-down his best song,
By
This review is from: My Hands (MP3 Download)
"My Hands" has quickly become my favorite song on David Archuleta's debut CD. It's one of the more up-tempo pop songs on the CD, with a nice urban edge that might appeal to current pop radio. The song reminds me a bit of Chris Brown's "With You," for which David received mostly negative reviews on "American Idol." Fortunately, David pulls off "My Hands" with ease. The lyrics admittedly are a bit muddled; David is trying to stop the "hands" of time by destroying his watch so that he can hold on to his girlfriend. Or something along those lines. Clearly, the lyrics are not the song's greatest strength. Listeners are unlikely to care, though, because it's such a sweet, bouncy song. David's voice sounds amazing on the soaring chorus: But it's harder to hold on/ To your hands/ And the hands of time/ I need a hand, girl/ I'm trying to hold on. However, what makes the song are David's interesting, layered vocals on the bridge: If everything'd stop/ I'd listen for your heart/ To lead me right to you, yeah/ I tried every way I can.
David's first single, "Crush," was a huge hit, peaking at #2 in the U.S. and selling more than a million digital downloads. So what will be the next single? Several sources initially listed another "hand" song as the second single - "Touch My Hand." However, after the full-length CD was released digitally, David's fans seemed to prefer another song, "A Little Too Not over You," and now these same sources are listing that as the second single. I'd like to nominate "My Hands" as a potential single. I think it showcases David's vocals beautifully and could be a mainstream pop hit. Ultimately, "My Hands" might be a bit too "Jonas Brothers" for some people, but it's a pretty terrific pop song.
