Review

“Garry Marshall is walking entertainment. He is smart, insightful, funny…and so is his book.” ―Henry Winkler

"Even though he speaks slowly with a distinctive New Yorkese Bronx accent, he has managed to quickly create, write, and produce a raft of beloved television series that speak 'American'. I am happy that he gifted us with a witty memoir (about his Happy Days in Hollywood).” ―Carl Reiner

“Thanks to my brother I have a life.  I’m sorry I almost ruined his during Laverne & Shirley.” ―Penny Marshall

"I never thought my fairy godmother would look―or sound―like Garry. He is a gift of a human being, and this book is wicked sweet." ―Anne Hathaway

“Garry Marshall is one of the most beloved and talented people I know…and maybe the most normal guy in the business. This wonderful biography will allow readers to discover for themselves the decent and kind man who writes and directs with such a huge heart—all grounded from humble beginnings in The Bronx. This is a must-read book.” —Julie Andrews

“Garry Marshall is quite simply one of my favorite people. He is loving, loyal, and hilarious! Having made movies with Garry when I was 20, 30, and 40…I guess you could say Garry and Barbara have raised me! In a time where people have lost touch with things to laugh about, this book is sure to be a cure.” —Julia Roberts

Garry Marshall book "My Happy Days in Hollywood" is a great memoir. I have not finished the book yet (20/30 pages left to go), but I had to write a review to this fun, entertaining, memoir of a TV great writer/director. Fans of T.V. shows, like The Odd Couple, Happy Days, and Laverne and Shirley, and Mork and Mindy, will enjoy reading about what happens behind the scenes of these TV shows. I sure did. Garry Marshall writes about the friction (and cursing) among Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams on the Laverne and Shirley set. He also writes that the Happy Days set was the most enjoyable, and also the easiest people to work with and how everybody got along, on the Happy Days set.
He also writes about the movies he has directed and produced as well. Flamingo Kid, Pretty Woman, Dear God, etc. What fun this book is. This book is going to be a permanent part of my book library. I have enjoyed reading this book very much, and cannot put it down.

This book is full of inspiring life lessons. Mr. Marshall and his family enjoy life even when it throws them curveballs. While that statement reads like a self-help book review, this book is even better! It is a real world success and LOVE story that should be used as a self-help guide.

Going to meet Mr. Marshall at a book signing tonight. Wonder how he will sign my Kindle edition...

Garry Marshall is one of the more prolific writers/producers/directors Hollywood has ever seen. This guy has literally done it all and has worked with a tremendous amount of "A-listers" in the business.

His book takes us back to how he started while in the military...thru his "Golden Years" of TV with "The Odd Couple", "Happy Days", "Laverne and Shirley" and "Mork & Mindy". Then a plethora of hit and not so hit romantic comedy movies...of which his crowning glory was "Pretty Woman".

Marshall also writes about his relationships with his family most notably his sister, Penny Marshall, the Laverne of "Laverne and Shirley"...a writer, producer and director in her own right.

Good memoir..great read!

This wonderful memoir overflows with Mr. Marshall's humor, optimism, and good will. There's a chapter devoted to nearly every project he's ever worked on, which means there is something for everyone, no matter what movie or TV show of his is your personal favorite. I highly recommend the audiobook version!

My son and I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Mr. Marshall at Lafayette College's commencement on May 19, 2012. He was warm, charming, engaging and totally without pretense. His book is an entertaining memoir that shows his humanity and how much he cares about his colleagues and family. One can't help but wish him continued success in all of his creative endeavors.
