5.0 out of 5 stars The sound of an aching heart
This wonderful a cappella song is sung in a minor key that conveys the sorrow of longing for a loved one who is far away, perhaps at war, and the hope of being together again. Some simple, subtle echo effects in the background intensify the sense of distance. The main voice reminds me of Gillian Welch, twangy and rich and honeyed. The harmonies aren't off key or sour to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Just doesn't sound right...
OK...I downloaded this based on the sample offered... (It sounded like something country/Gospel)

Then I went back and listened to the WHOLE thing...

I wanted (halfway through) to just stop it and delete it.

Despite the fact that the harmonies USUALLY sound so smooth and good...it seemed that, just as I eased into listening to...

5.0 out of 5 stars The sound of an aching heart, December 30, 2008

This wonderful a cappella song is sung in a minor key that conveys the sorrow of longing for a loved one who is far away, perhaps at war, and the hope of being together again. Some simple, subtle echo effects in the background intensify the sense of distance. The main voice reminds me of Gillian Welch, twangy and rich and honeyed. The harmonies aren't off key or sour to my ear (as a previous reviewer felt); rather, it's the sound of an aching heart. The lyrics are beautiful: "Waited a hundred years to see your face/And I would wait a hundred more/If only to be near you/To have you and to hear you/Isn't that what time is for?" For me, it's definitely a keeper, and I will check out the rest of the band's music. If you know what it's like to miss someone dear to your heart, I think you will appreciate this song.

Then I went back and listened to the WHOLE thing...

I wanted (halfway through) to just stop it and delete it.

Despite the fact that the harmonies USUALLY sound so smooth and good...it seemed that, just as I eased into listening to this...they would hit a SOUR note, or something else that jarred me out of my ease. Kept telling myself that it was just ME...that (somehow) I wasn't listening to it right...I wasn't "getting" it...

Nope. As much as I wanted to like this, give it 5 stars, and keep it...just can't do it.

Deleted it off my computer...maybe someone else will have better "luck" with it... Just not for me.
