Do you like fan service?, December 29, 2006
This review is from: My-HiME 1 (My-HiME) (Paperback)
Plot summary; magic girls + monsters + school girl outfits, basically all you need to know.
This is just a review for volume one, not the entire manga series. For those who are not aware the anime and the manga for "Mai-Hime" are almost totally different so if you're a fan of the the series I'd definitely say check out the manga as well for a different perspective on their world. There's a lot more fan service...a lot more... I'm a sucker for that stuff so I'm not complaining but be warned those of you who are turned off by it.
At this point I'm really not that into the story and it has been my interest in how the manga and anime differ and all the pretty pictures that kept me turning the pages. My friends have told me it is quite good but unfortunately based on volume one I cannot say I would recommend this to anyone except hardcore Mai Hime fans and probably people who enjoyed Ikkitousen. Hopefully things will change with volume two.

Superior Manga, February 20, 2007
This review is from: My-HiME 1 (My-HiME) (Paperback)
After the My-Hime anime, the Mai Otome anime and the Mai Otome Zwei ovas, another venture into the world of HiME's may seem hard to justify. But the trip this mange provides is well worth the time and expense. The author has taken the characters and mechanics of the My-HiME universe and written his own unique story. While readers who are wedded to the anime version of the story may be disappointed, those readers looking for nothing more than an outstanding adveture story will find it here.

Not wonderful, but not a bad read either, August 15, 2011
This review is from: My-HiME 1 (My-HiME) (Paperback)
Let's see if I can expand on this manga without revealing too much
Pretty girls - Check
Young man with past - Check
Girls have magical power - check
Man has the ability to increase girls power - check
Man can do this wtih more than one girl - check
Girls don't like each other - check
Monsters attacking school - check
Monster attacks destroy clothing on girls - check.
Fights tend to destroy parts of the campus - check
Simple, cliche, standard. That's a way to describe My-HIME.
The girls are well drawn and each has her own personality even if not much about them is revealed in the short chapters. The two main girls fight of the main character. Parly because he can increase their power, but there seemed to be some animosity from before that was never quite explained.
The artwork is well drawn, although sometimes a panel gets busy with all the detail. There is fanservice, but its mostly mild with quick shofts of panties under a short skirt. I don't see it as offensive, but some will.
Fun series through the first volume, but so far limited in imagination and score.
