Plot summary; magic girls + monsters + school girl outfits, basically all you need to know.

This is just a review for volume one, not the entire manga series. For those who are not aware the anime and the manga for "Mai-Hime" are almost totally different so if you're a fan of the the series I'd definitely say check out the manga as well for a different perspective on their world. There's a lot more fan service...a lot more... I'm a sucker for that stuff so I'm not complaining but be warned those of you who are turned off by it.

At this point I'm really not that into the story and it has been my interest in how the manga and anime differ and all the pretty pictures that kept me turning the pages. My friends have told me it is quite good but unfortunately based on volume one I cannot say I would recommend this to anyone except hardcore Mai Hime fans and probably people who enjoyed Ikkitousen. Hopefully things will change with volume two.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not wonderful, but not a bad read either, August 15, 2011

Let's see if I can expand on this manga without revealing too much

Pretty girls - Check
Young man with past - Check
Girls have magical power - check
Man has the ability to increase girls power - check
Man can do this wtih more than one girl - check
Girls don't like each other - check
Monsters attacking school - check
Monster attacks destroy clothing on girls - check.
Fights tend to destroy parts of the campus - check

Simple, cliche, standard. That's a way to describe My-HIME.

The girls are well drawn and each has her own personality even if not much about them is revealed in the short chapters. The two main girls fight of the main character. Parly because he can increase their power, but there seemed to be some animosity from before that was never quite explained.

The artwork is well drawn, although sometimes a panel gets busy with all the detail. There is fanservice, but its mostly mild with quick shofts of panties under a short skirt. I don't see it as offensive, but some will.

Fun series through the first volume, but so far limited in imagination and score.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelent read!, April 17, 2008

I really enjoyed this book. The plot and the love triangle between the three main characters is what I enjoyed most. It has action, adventure, love, and even a little mystery in there. The back story of the three main characters is also very interesting. There is some fan service, but it is hardly "simply filled with pictures of Mai's chest" as one reviewer put it.

As for guessing by the cover...
Well that looks like a picture of Mai, so by looking at that, one would guess that Mai is in the book, and she is.

5.0 out of 5 stars get it while you can!, February 9, 2011

I believe My-Hime has offically gone out of print. So get this gem while you can. It differs quite a bit from the Anime. All of your favorite characters are here but in slightly different roles. First off the storyline is much more adult in nature. Much more implied inuendo and visually descriptive "encounters". So bear in mind this is not for children. That said, it's a good fun read. Any fan of My-Hime should give it a look. As to the characters themselves, they do differ somewhat from their on screen counterparts. Firstly and without giving away too much Mai and Natsuki are both interested in Tate... There's also some enounters between him and Nao. I really liked it and I hope you enjoy it as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars My-HiME Vol. 1 Reader Review, July 19, 2007
This review is from: My-HiME 1 (My-HiME) (Paperback)
I like the story, but it could have been better, without the sexually explicit scenes that aren't necessary and serve only as distractions. I wanted to give this book as a gift to an 11-year-old girl, but after seeing its content, I decided not to give it to her.

This review is from: My-HiME 1 (My-HiME) (Paperback)
This manga is baced on the anime My-HiME. The story line is good, butt it is different from the anime. This manga has some course language, nudity and violence. It is not for people under 17.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Buy, December 26, 2006
This review is from: My-HiME 1 (My-HiME) (Paperback)
When this manga came out i was so very excited. It turned out to be a total waste of time and money. This mangs was made to please the 'fan boys.' deffinetly. It was a boring read, simply filled with pictures of Mai's chest. Though, i should have guessed from the cover. -___-

For those of us who truly love this anime, and really enjoy the story line, DO NOT BUY.

thank you
